So how is Germany? How old are your other children now? What have you been up to this year? I finished my A-levels this summer. But enough small talk. On our European road trip in the summer, the journey took us close to your house and I asked Mum and my stepdad if we could pay a visit so that I could see you. Outside your house, I couldnt bring myself to get out of the car and knock on the door.Ive tried so many different forms of munication email, the phone and I also suggested Skype. Yet I still cant get through to you.My mum, stepdad and I sat around the table trying to work out why I had felt unable to knock on your door that day. At last it came to me. I think, perhaps subconsciously, I was saving myself the grief of your response. Why cant your parental obligations stretch to all three of your children, not just your two recent ones? In our previous conversations, which ended suddenly, as your older son needed to be put to bed, Id ask you how he was doing at school, and youd talk about the weather. No one listening would be able to tell there was any difference between our relationship and one you might have with a neighbour.Forget your excuses that the flight to visit me is expensive and that you need to look after your other children (I hope you can see the irony(讽刺) in that). While you watch their school plays, dont you consider that I would have liked you to be there at mine? Perhaps the reason I didnt knock on your door was that I just dont care anymore. Im exhausted trying to make this work. Maybe a part of me wasnt actually bothered whether I saw you or not that day youve already lost so much meaning in my life; you are someone who just sends me a birthday card. This isnt me being bitter, although I was initially. Its just a way of telling you how I really feel.Phoebe66. How did Phoebe feel when she was sitting in the car outside her fathers house? A. ExcitedB. PuzzledC. DisappointedD. Embarrassed67. But movies also contain stories, dialogues, music and sound effects - things that people dont need to see in order to enjoy. Movie reviewer Marty Klein has created a website to help visually impaired people choose movies that they can follow without the help of an assistant to explain what is happening on the screen. Klein gives movies a rating from 1 to 10 based on several factors. A movie receives a high rating if there are only a few main characters whose voices are easy to recognize. Klein also likes an interesting story without too many changes in time and place. A large amount of dialogue between the characters is better than long silences or noisy action scenes. Of course, visually impaired people can enjoy many films with the help from a friend who doesnt mind explaining the parts of a movie that can only be seen. But that means that someone is talking during the movie, which could annoy some audience members. It also means that these people cannot go to the movies independently. To solve these problems, some movie theaters have begun to offer recorded audio descriptions of the movements, scenery, and special effects that other audience members can see on the screen. Visually impaired moviegoers receive a wireless headset to wear during the movie. This allows them to listen to the narration while still hearing a movies music and other sounds that surround them in the theater.Another blind movie reviewer, Jay Forry, writes movie reviews that are published on his website. He also writes for newspapers and is a guest on radio shows. Forry gives movies one of five ratings, including, So good, blind people will like it and Im glad I couldnt see it. Forry became a writer after going blind at the age of 20 and he decided to go to college. His first articles appeared in the college newspaper, and Forrys writing skills and sense of humor are what keep people reading his reviews or listening to them on the radio. After watching The Sixth Sense, Forry mented that he thought the movie was excellent, but that he envied the boy who was the main character: He had six senses, and I only have four. 70Which of the following is not mentioned as something that can be enjoyed without being seen? A. Stories. B. conversations. C. Music. D. Special effects.71. Visually impaired people refers to those who _. A. are pletely deaf B. cant see anything C. are lame when walking D. make ments on movies72. Which movie might receive a good rating from Marty Klein? A. A martial arts film with many fight scenes. B. A drama that often shifts between the past and the present. C. A romantic edy with four main characters and lots of conversations. D. A space adventure with many explosions and special effects.73.
