2019-2020年高中英语Unit2Period4Grammarandusage教案The General Idea of This Period:This is a period of learning the grammar-the attributive clauses introduced by prep. + relative pronoun and relative adverbs. This is a very important grammar in this term. Even though there are some exercises for students to do, teacher still have to provide some more exercises for them to do to consolidate the grammar.Teaching Aims:Learn the attributive clause with prepositionsLearn the attributive clause introduced by relative adverbs where, when, and why.Teaching Important Points;The usages of prep. + the relative pronoun.The usages and functions of the relative adverbs.Teaching Difficult Points:The choice of the prepositions in the attributive clause.The choice of the relative adverbs.Teaching Methods :Teaching and practicing.Individual or pair work. Teaching Aids: A projector and some slides. Teaching Procedures: Step I Greetings Greet the whole class as usual. Step 2 Revision In Unit One we have learned the attributive clause introduced by the relative pronouns. Now lets do some exercises to revise it. BADBB Step 3 Grammar and Usage According to the exercises, we know the relative pronouns are used as objects either after verbs or after prepositions. When they are used as the objects of prepositions, the position of the prepositions must be paid more attention to. The preposition usually follows the verb in spoken English. We can use who whom that or which and they are usually omitted in spoken English. If the preposition is used before the relative pronoun, which or whom can only be used while who or that mustnt be used. Besides , which or whom cant be omitted. That is preposition + whom/which. Please look at the screen. 1. A. The person(who/whom/that) you should write to is Mr. Ball. B. The person to whom you should write is Mr. Ball. 2. A. The games (which/that) he peted in were swimming and shooting B. The games in which he peted were swimming and shooting.T: But how to choose the proper prepositions is very important. We can choose them in three ways. First, we can find out which verb the preposition is used with in the clause. Second, we can find out which noun or pronoun the clause modifies. Third, we can find out the meaning of the clause. Ill give you some examples. Look at the screen ,please. 1. A. Have you met the person about whom he was speaking? B. He is the man to whom you can turn for help. 2. A. The farm on which we worked ten years ago isnt what it used to be. B. This is the tree under which we used to play games. 3. A. The pen with which he is writing now was bought yesterday. B. The gas without which we can not live is called oxygen.T. Are you sure about that?Ss: Yes.T:OK. So much for my explanations. Please turn to page 28 and go through the introduction about preposition + which/whom.(Give the students several minutes to go through it. )T: Well, we have known this kind of attributive clause. Lets do Exercises A and B to consolidate it. I give you several minutes to do them. Next well learn the usages of the adverbs: where, when, why. We use where for place, when for time, why for reason. Relative adverbs not only introduce attributive clause, but also are used as adverbials in the clause. Please look at the sentences on the screen.1. The house where(=in which) we live is not big.2. Thats the hotel where (=at which) we stayed last year.3. Do you remember the day when (=on which) your sister graduated as a Master of Arts?4. 1988 is the year when (=in which) I was born.5. Do you know the reason why (= for which) he didnt e?T: The relative adverbs where when and why can be replaced by preposition 4- which. Here how to choose the proper prepositions depends on the noun or pronoun that the attributive clause modifies. Now please go through the introduction to the relative adverbs, and then finish the exercises on page 31.(The teacher gives the students enough time to finish the exercises, then check the answers)Step 4 ConsolidationDo the exercises on P88 Parts C1and C2.Step 5 HomeworkA paper with the attributive clause exercise
