Discussion to help the students grasp the detailed information.Teaching Aids:the multimediaTeaching Procedures:CStep Greetings and Lead-in(Greet the whole class as usual.)T: Today, I will begin my class with an interesting story of my son, who is 3 years old.One day, my son told me that he had a nice dream. I was very surprised but eager to know about it. He told me that he dreamt of having a lot of money. How much?I asked him. 5 yuan ,he was very proud. And I continued to asked him how he dealt with so much money. He smiled and said that he spent all his 5 yuan buying sweet candies. Then I found out ,to him, it maybe the most wonderful dream.Have you ever had such a nice dream?(ask 2or 3 students to talk about their nice dreams)CStep Pre-readingT: Very good. But today, well learn something about a great freedom fightersdream. It is a dream against Racism. Before we e to that point,we should first get the idea of Racism. Now, please turn to Page 27 and have a look at the pictures. Have a short discussion in pairs and describe what you see to each other.(Students practise for a moment and then teacher asks some of them to describe the pictures.)Description and background of the first picture:The first picture shows us a terrible scene. In the picture we can see the Nazi soldiers arrest a large group of people. This happened between the year 1933 and 1945.During that period, Adolf Hitler controlled Germany. He invaded some countries and killed as many as twelve million persons, most of whom were Jews, captured soldiers and mon people.Description and background of the second picture:The third picture is about South Africa. In 1990, Mandela was set free and was elected the first black president of South Africa in 1994.Before that, the local people there had no equal rights. They were ruled by the whites and were looked down upon.Description and background of the third picture:The second picture is about the Southern States in the USA, during 19001968.Though slaves in the USA were set free in 1865,they didnt get equal rights until 1965.Before that, they didnt have the rights to vote and were treated unfairly. The blacks and whites couldnt go to the same schools. There were separate sections for blacks in public places.T:And Martin Luther King JR was one of the greatest men who led the Civil Rights movements. The keynote speech at the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, King gave the address from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to about 250,000 people assembled before him. Since 1963, Kings I Have a Dream speech has bee the most famous public address of 20th century America. The immediate effect of the speech also shaped American history.
