单元综合测评(三)(时间:100分钟;满分:120分).阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。A(2016湖北黄冈高二模拟)Dolphins live in a dark underwater world. Its often impossible to see each other or anything else around them, so sound plays an important role in their survival. To communicate with each other, dolphins produce all kinds of sounds.Only other dolphins understand what the sounds mean. Scientists havent uncovered their secret communication, except for one kind of whistle. It might last less than a second, but this whistle is a big deal. Why? Because these whistles are actually names of dolphinsand every dolphin has one. Scientists call these sounds a “signature whistle.” When other dolphins hear the whistle, they know which dolphin is calling.Dolphins often hunt by themselves but still need to stay connected to the group. Since they cant always see each other, dolphins use their signature whistles to check in with other dolphins hundreds of yards away. “In coastal areas, dolphins exchange whistles even when theyre a third of a mile apart,” says Greg Campbell, who studies animals. That means dolphins shout out to group members that might be nearly five football fields away.Whats amazing is who names the baby dolphin. Not the mother. Not an auntie dolphin or another group member. Scientists believe the baby dolphin itself comes up with the signature whistle. Like human babies, a baby dolphin plays with sounds throughout its first year. While testing its sound skills, a baby dolphin is doing something amazing. Its creating or figuring out its signature whistle. How or why it chooses its signature whistle is not clear. Studies show that most of the time the signature whistle is nothing like its mothers or group members whistles. When the baby dolphin is about a year old, its signature whistle is set. It repeats it often so the other dolphins learn to recognize it.Deciphering(破译) dolphin names is just the beginning of figuring out what dolphins communicate about. Do they chat about sharks? Discuss the tides? Maybe they even have a name for people. Someday scientists to decipher the rest of dolphins communication.1Sound is important for dolphins because of Atheir poor sense of directionBtheir living environmentCtheir strong enemiesDtheir big groups【解析】细节理解题。根据第一段的“Dolphins live in a dark underwater world. Its often impossible to see each other or anything else around them,so sound plays an important role in their survival.”可知,海豚生活在黑压压的水下,什么也看不到,这决定了它们得用声音进行交流。【答案】B2The dolphins signature whistle Alasts along timeBcan travel long distancesCis especially helpful in huntingDcan be recognized by other animals【解析】细节理解题。根据第三段的“dolphins exchange whistles even when theyre a third of a mile apart”和“shout out to group members that might be nearly five football fields away”可知,这种哨音可以传播很远。【答案】B3The author writes the text mainly to Aencourage readers to study dolphinsBtell readers how dolphins communicateCshow how lovely and clever dolphins areDintroduce a special sound made by dolphins【解析】推理判断题。根据第二段的“Scientists havent uncovered their secret communication, except for one kind of whistle”和最后一段可知,本文是要向读者介绍海豚发出的一种奇特声音的含义。【答案】D4A baby dolphin gets its name Asoon after it was bornBaccording to its sizeCall by itselfDwith the help of its group【解析】细节理解题。根据第四段的“a baby dolphin plays with sounds throughout its first year. While testing its sound skills,a baby dolphin is doing something amazing. Its creating or figuring out its signature whistle.”可知,小海豚的名字是根据它自己发出的哨音确定的。【答案】CBWorking women make up nearly half of the US. workforce, and 51 percent of professional workers, like doctors, lawyers, nurses and accountants, are female. While climbing the career ladder can be rewarding, it often comes with one big downside: weight gain!New research published this week in the International Journal of Obesity shows that working women are more likely to be overweight, and the more you work, the more pounds youre likely to pile on. Like many women, I work., a lot! As a selfemployed nutrition communications specialist, I sit at my desk, in front of a computer, for hours on end. Sitting alone is one of the worst things you can do for your health, and its directly linked to being overweight and increased fatness, so the fact that women in the workforce gain weight isnt that surprising. If you work, you have less time to move around. Obesity researchers are revealing many other ways that employment is harmful to your diet and waistline. In the International Journal of Obesity study, some 9,276 Australian women aged 4550 had their body weight and employment status monitored for two years. Results? Those who worked more than 35 hours were likely to gain weight compared to those who worked fewer hours or were out of the workforce. What s more, the more hours a woman worked in a week, the more weight she gained. The authors of the Australian study attribute weight gain among working women to inactivity, lack of time for food preparation, more use of prepared foods, high levels of stress, lack of sleep and consuming more alcohol. On the first part of our adventure we went on a challenging fourday trek (长途旅行) across many mountains. Luckily, there were many of my classmates and teachers around. We relied on each other for support and encouragement when things got really tough. Even though the trek was hard, Ill never forget how beautiful the landscape was.During our trek, we got to visit a local tribe. The best part was when we played with the young kids. We showed them how to use toys like a soccer ball. They loved being with us and always had such big smiles on their faces. We left them many gifts like coloring books and sporting goods. They were so thankful and happy. I think we really made their day.By Annalee Del Vecchio, 18, University of Sydney, AustraliaDuring Spring Break, I went to Florida with my host family. “I want to get a tan (晒成古铜色) there!” my host sister said excitedly. It was really warm down there. My host sisters and my host brothers spent most of the daytime lying on the beach, enjoying the sun and reading a book. I didnt want a tan at all, so I wore a long sleeved shirt to hang out with them on the beach. That was kind of weird (怪异的). My host sister Kelly has sensitive skin. Her skin got burned after just a few hours in the sun. She felt sad!We went to a dance club one night. I didnt really dance a lot, but my sisters were so energetic that they danced until midnight.By Li Tongtong, 16 Lexington Christian Academy in Massachusetts,USAmerican high school goers call it Spring Break, and judging by American films, these holidays are filled with constant partying. However in the UK we sometimes call it Study Week.Sadly, that is exactly what I will be filling my two weeks off doing. I am currently in my sixth year at school with only a couple of months to go till I sit my Advanced Higher Art, Higher Psychology and Higher Business exams. I will be heading to the school library as much as possible, as well as locking myself in my room for a good few hours of the day.But I will of course find time to enjoy my holidays as well. In fact, many of my friends are turning eighteen during the break and will be having parties to celebrate. They tend to be held in either church halls or nightclubs. In the UK, the legal age for drinking alcohol is eighteen years old, so I am sure there will be plenty of beer, wine or even vodka (a firm favorite of mine) being drunk at the party.By Miriam Clark, 17, Turnbull High School, Glasgow, UK9What did Annalee Del Vecchio feel most interesting during his trip?AThe journey to Vietnam.BClimbing mountains.CPlaying with the kids of a local tribe.DThe beautiful landscape.【解析】细节理解题。根据第一个故事中的第三段第二句话:“The best part was when we.”可知答案。【答案】C10According to the text, those who like to enjoy the sunbath in spring break can go to AAustraliaBFloridaCVietnamDthe UK【解析】细节理解题。根据第二个故事中第一段中的“I want to get a tan(晒成古铜色) there”以及第二段中第二句“My host sister and my host brothers spent.,enjoying the sun.”可知答案【答案】B11From the text,we can learn that vodka is the name of a(n) AalcoholBsoft drinkCfoodDparty【解析】推理判断题。根据全篇最后一段最后一句可知,beer, wine, vodka是递进关系。【答案】ADYou cant always predict a heavy rain or remember your umbrella. But designer Mikhail Belyaev doesnt think that forgetting to check the weather forecast before heading out should result in you getting wet.Thats why he created lampbrella, a lamp post with its own rainsensing umbrella. The designer says he came up with the idea after watching people get wet on streets in Russia.“Once,I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street and saw the street lamps lighting up people trying to hide from the rain.I thought it would be appropriate to have a canopy (伞蓬) built into a street lamp.”he said. The lampbrella is a standardlooking street lamp fitted with an umbrella canopy. It has a builtin electric motor which can open or close the umbrella on demand. Sensors then ensure that the umbrella offers pedestrians shelter whenever it starts raining. In addition to the rain sensor, theres also a 360 motion sensor on the fiberglass street lamp which detects whether anyones using the lampbrella. After three minutes of not being used the canopy is closed.According to the designer, the lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed, so as not to cause harm to the pedestrians.Besides,it would be grounded to protect from possible lighting strike. Each lampbrella would offer enough shelter for several people.Being installed at 2 meters off the ground,it would only be a danger for the tallest of pedestrians. While there are no plans to take the lampbrella into production, Belyaev says he recently introduced his creation to one Moscow Department, and insists his creation could be installed on any street where a lot of people walk but there are no canopies to provide shelter.12For what purpose did Belyaev create the lampbrella?ATo predict a heavy rain.BTo check the weather forecast.CTo protect people from the rain.DTo remind people to take an umbrella.【解析】细节理解题。题目问的是Belyaev创造lampbrella的目的是什么。原文定位第二段第一句话,he came up with.Russia,可以看出这个发明是为了防止人们淋雨。【答案】C13What do we know from Belyaevs words in Paragraph 2?AHis creation was inspired by an experience.BIt rains a lot in the city of Saint Petersburg.CStreet lamps are protected by canopies.DHe enjoyed taking walks in the rain.【解析】推理判断题。定位第二段,引号部分为作者的亲身经历,由此产生了这个创意。【答案】A14What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us about the lampbrella?AIts moving speed.BIts appearance.CIts installation.DIts safety.【解析】段落大意题。根据第五段中的关键词so as not to cause harm.以及protect.from.,可知此发明体现了其安全性。【答案】D15What can be inferred from the last paragraph?AThe designer will open a company to promote his product.BThe lampbrella could be put into immediate production.CThe designer is confident that his creation is practical.DThe lampbrella would be put on show in Moscow.【解析】推理判断题。 (2016甘肃天水高二模拟)When I was 16 years old, a boy gave me an important gift. 16 It was the early autumn of my first year at a junior high school, and my old school was far away.17 I was very lonely, and afraid to make friends with anyone.Every time I listened to other students talking and laughing, I felt my heart break.
