After the wedding and reception, rather serendipitously (意外收获地) four of us gathered in a hotel room and began to explore the deeper meaning of life and death. What does it mean to live truly? If we are all getting closer to death, is all the material accumulation worth it? It is not exactly the type of conversations one has at a wedding. While the answers varied from person to person, I was left with more questions than answers and a feeling of gratefulness to be surrounded by friends who were asking the “right” questions. As the clock kept ticking past 3 am, one of the roommates suggested we watch a short film titled, “Last Days of Zach Sobiech.” The premise of the film is about a teenagers journey through the last days of his terminal illness. The film brought up a lot of mixed emotions but one quote that stood out for me was Zachs simple explanation of happiness, “what makes one happy is seeing someone else smile because you put it there.” By 4 am, there was this energy in the room that had to be shared! With a few packages of post it notes and sharpies, we hit the halls of the hotel. We decided to leave short inspirational words on guests doors, so when they open their doors few hours later a smile would turn up. We ended up tagging all the doors until we ran out of postit notes. The door of the newlyweds properly said,“ where there is love, there is life.”1About “exploring the deeper meaning of life and death” at a wedding the author thinks _.Ait is interestingBit is instructiveCit is not proper Dit is rather proper2The film left the author the deepest impression that _.AZachs complex explanation of happinessBZachs simple explanation of happinessCZachs terminal illnessDZachs mixed emotions3What did the author and his friends do after they saw the film?AThey made a smile card with different words for all the doors of the hotel where they stayed.BThey helped the people who were in the hotel where they stayed.CThey helped the workers in the hotel where they stayed.DThey knocked at all the doors in the hotel where they stayed.BHome flowers and any garden and office plants certainly decorate(装饰) our life. After a hard day, or just in a bad mood, what can help you?Of course they are the flowers.Even if you just look at them and see how a favorite flower blossoms, it definitely lifts your spirits.Home flowers, of course, will make your home comfortable and beautiful.Being in the office at work, you are exposed to harmful substances(物质) which are released(释放) from computers and other office equipment. As is known to all, office plants rid the air of harmful components (成分), while giving off substances which are useful for a person. Therefore,if your office has at least a few plants, you not only can admire them, but also can keep healthy.Decorate your garden with garden flowers, and youll notice how positive your life will become. Each morning when going out, youll see how your garden flowers have grown for the night. When people care for garden flowers and home flowers, they relax and even receive the energy of them.Flowers are one of the most beautiful creations of nature. On our website we give details on the types of home flowers, garden and office plants, and also give advice about care of flowers and creative placement and color combination(组合) the home floristry(花业)In the categories of our site you can find a detailed description of the home and garden flowers, palms and other plants, as well as original ideas about home floristry with photos. In order to find the information, you can use our easy navigation (向导) of the site.4When you see a favorite flower blossoms, youll _.Afeel very sad Bfeel quite surprisedCgo out of mind Dbe in high spirits5We can infer from the second paragraph that _.Aan office plant can do good to our healthBits very difficult to grow a plant in an officeCan office is usually the most polluted placeDan office plant cannot help you concentrate on work6The third paragraph is mainly about _.Ahow to decorate your garden with flowersBthe benefits of garden flowers to youCthe best time to admire your garden flowersDhow to care for garden flowers and home flowers7On the website mentioned in the last paragraph, you will not find information about_.Ahow many kinds of home flowers, garden and office plants are offered Bhow to care for different kinds of flowersChow to lay out flowers in your homeDhow the home floristry has been developing in recent yearsC Long ago, poems were recited out loud instead of being written down. When the Greeks first started the Olympics, they held poetry contests as well as athletic competitions. Now, poetry competitions have been revived. This year 120,000 high school students competed in the first Poetry Out Loud national recitation contest, performing poems from memory for $100,000 in prizes. The first competitions were held in classrooms. The winners went on to schoolwide contests, and then they competed in city and state competitions. Finally, the 50 state champions, along with the District of Columbia champion, descended upon Washington, DC., last week for the ultimate showdown. After the 51 champions competed against one another, 12 went on to the finals. Then the field was narrowed to five. The final five had one last chance to “perform” a poem. The overall champ, Jackson Hille, a high school senior from Ohio, won a $ 20,000 scholarship. The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation started Poetry Out Loud because they realized that hearing a poem performed is a different experience from reading it on a page. Its not just a matter of saying the words in the right order. Its the tone of voice, the pauses, the gestures, and the attitude of the person performing that bring the words to life. “Each time we hear somebody recite a poem, we understand again what we found fresh and interesting about it,” says National Public Radio broadcaster Scott Simon, master of ceremonies for the finals. Hearing it in a new voice offers something new for the listener. Not only do the people hearing poems have a new experience, memorizing and presenting poems helps the participants understand those poems in a new way. Another benefit of a competition such as Poetry Out Loud is that the participants learn publicspeaking skills that can help them for life.8From the first paragraph, we can know _.Athe Greeks were the first to write pomesBthe Olympics used to start with poem recitingCpoems were spread orally in the pastDathletes were asked to recite poems before competing9How many rounds of competitions did the champions take before they went to Washington, D. C?AThree.BFour.CFive. DSix. 10According to the passage, hearing a poem recited by different people can _. Abecome skilled in speaking in public Bwrite good poems themselvesCchange their attitudes towards life Dmake friends with many great poets DPeople_seldom_feel_neutral_about_poetry.Those who love it sometimes give the impression that it is an adequate substitute for food, shelter, and love. It isnt. Words, no matter how satisfying, are never an equivalent for life itself and its human experiences. Those who dislike poetry on principle sometimes claim, on the other hand, that poetry is only words and good for nothing. Thats not true either. It is easy to become frustrated by words in poetry or in life but when words represent and recreate genuine human feelings, as they often do in poetry, they can be very important. Poetry is an experience of words, and those who know how to read poetry can easily extend their experience of life, their sense of what other people are like, their awareness of themselves, and their range of human feelings. One reason poetry can be so important is that it is so closely concerned with feelings. Poetry is often full of ideas, too, and sometimes poems can be powerful experiences of the mind, but most poems are primarily about how people feel rather than how people think. Poems provide, in fact, a language for feeling, and one of poetrys most outstanding values involves its attempt to express the inexpressible. How can anyone, for example, put into words what it means to be in love or what it feels like to lose someone one cares about? Poetry tries, and it often captures exactly the shade of emotion that feels just right to a reader. No single poem can be said to express all the things that love or death feels like, or means, but one of the joys of experiencing poetry occurs when we read a poem and want to say, “Yes, that is just what it is like; I know exactly what that line means but Ive never been able to express it so well.” Poetry can be the voice of our feelings even when our minds are speechless with grief or joy. 12“People seldom feel neutral about poetry” in Para.1 in this context means that _. Amany people think that poetry is neutral Bpeople always differ in their views about poetry Cpeople rarely take a biased opinion about poetry Dpeople generally think of poetry as extremely important or totally useless13The author suggests that _. Apoetry often captures real human feelings Bpoetry makes its readers sentimental (感性的)Cpoetry is more important than wordsDpoetry tends to make the reader disappointed14Poetry tries, persistently, to express _. Awhat love and death meanBwhat people think about themselves Cwhat people feel but find it hard to describeDhow people go through life15This passage is mainly about _. Athe structure of poetry Bthe nature and importance of poetry Cthe components of poetry Dthe appreciation of poetry.任务型阅读Travel LightGetting away for a short time always seems like a great idea until you have to pack. _16_ The rule is: pack light.
