site of the worlds greatest prehistoric (史前的) fossil (化石) discovery,or that the town was built in a dinosaur theme park. But no dinosaur fossils have ever been found in Washington State.Yet all kinds of dinosaurs are in the town.“We just happen to like dinosaurs,” said the city official Alice Koerner.“And all kids happen to love dinosaurs. And when youre traveling with your family, its usually the kids that decide where you go.”Grangers dinosaurs took years of work and tons of cement (水泥) to make them look real. Its the kind of great effort that people think well of.The first Granger dinosaur went up in the early 1990s,according to Public Works Director Jack Burns.People liked it,so others followed, all designed and built by Jack and his partners.“That first one was prehistoric,”said Jack.“We used anything we could find around the Ginko Gem Shop, which has a colourful dinosaur standing outside to hold the cement.”Many of the prehistoric big beasts are on the towns south side. Most are kidfriendly and suitable for climbing.Grangers DinoinaDay (usually the first Saturday in June) invites the public to take part in dinosaur making.Driving into town shows you more dinosaurs.A large map at the entrance to the town promises to show where every Granger dinosaur is,but_it_is_out_of_date.Jack said,“We have been building more dinosaurs and we try to let people know more about science and art.”语篇解读华盛顿的Granger镇是个名副其实的“恐龙城”,旅游者一走进该城,就会见到许多各种各样的“恐龙”。1When you are visiting Granger,Washington,_.Ayou will see many dinosaur fossilsByou can visit a dinosaur theme parkCyou can buy dinosaur toys everywhereDyou can see many kinds of manmade dinosaurs解析:细节理解题。根据第一段的But no dinosaur fossils have ever been found in Washington State.Yet all kinds of dinosaurs are in the town可知那里并没有恐龙化石,都是一些人工制作的“恐龙”,故选D。答案:D2According to the city official Alice Koerner, the dinosaurs could_.Ahelp adults know more about science and artBmake Granger wellknown all over the worldCattract more kids to travel there with their parentsDmake people believe Granger was home to dinosaurs解析:推理判断题。根据第二段的And when youre traveling with your family, its usually the kids that decide where you go可推断Alice Koerner认为这些恐龙可以吸引小孩和他们的父母前来参观。答案:C3What do we learn about the first dinosaur built by Jack Burns?AIt was well received by people who saw it.BIt took Jack Burns several years to make it look real.CIt was the oldest dinosaur of all time.DIt was the model of many following dinosaurs.解析:细节理解题。根据第三段的People liked it.可知Jack Burns制作的第一座恐龙塑像很受欢迎,故选A。答案:A4What does the underlined part in the last paragraph show?AThere are too many dinosaurs in Granger.BThe map now cannot show where every dinosaur is.CMore kinds of dinosaurs have been made in Granger.DOne can never finish seeing all the dinosaurs in Granger.解析:推理判断题。根据末段的We have been building more dinosaurs可推断新的“恐龙”在不断地被制作出来,因此那张大地图并不能显示所有恐龙的准确位置,故显得过时了,因此选B。答案:BBNinety years ago a man named Howard Carter made a great find. But he didnt discover an unknown people group or a new plant. He found the resting place of a king.People had seen signs of King Tutankhamuns tomb (坟墓) but had never found it.Finally,Carters team discovered a set of steps that led down to some underground rooms. There Carter found the kings body and many of his treasures.Carter recorded his first impression (印象) in his popular book,The Tomb of TutAnkhAmen:At first I could see nothing, the hot air coming from the room causing the candle light to flicker (闪烁),but later,as my eyes grew used to the light, details of the room within appeared slowly and clearly, strange animals and goldeverywhere the light of gold.I was struck speechless with amazement, and when Lord Carnarvon, unable to stand the silence any longer, asked anxiously,“Can you see anything?”it was all I could do to get out the words,“Yes,wonderful things.”The discovery has made King Tutankhamun,Tut for short, one of the betterremembered kings of Egypt.Tut became king when he was only 9 years old and ruled ancient Egypt from 1332 to 1323 BC.No one is sure why,but he died suddenly before he turned 20.Because he died so young, there wasnt time to prepare a great tomb for him.So he ended up with a smaller tomb. Its small size was actually the reason why it stayed hidden for so long. And,Tuts tomb was not like other Egyptian kingsit was not as damaged by time or robbers as other tombs.King Tuts tomb remains the bestkept royal (皇室的) tomb ever discovered. The discovery of this little tomb has helped people learn a great deal about ancient Egypt.语篇解读本文是说明文。文章介绍了图坦卡蒙法老古墓的发现过程和现实意义。5We can learn from Paragraphs 12 that_.AHoward Carter found Tuts tomb in 1929Ba new plant was found in Tuts tombCHoward Carter found Tuts tomb by
