Bojun WuToday this column will introduce a Chinese writer Mo Yan who has just been awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. Mo Yan was born in Shandong province on February 1t, 1955. A couple of his works display the unique life in rural area, Chinese characteristics and exploration into humanity. His works have been translated into many other languages, and movies adapted from his works are popular with audiences both at home and abroad. His works have won many important literature prizes, including the Nobel Prize in literature awarded on October, 11, 2012, which made Mo Yan the first Chinese citizen to be dedicated to this honor. In my opinion, besides the hard work of Mo Yan, another more important factor that led to his success is that he managed to describe the key elements of Chinese rural area, which became the soul of his work. Thus, instead of pursuing western culture, we should pay more attention to our own culture, so that we can spread our civilization better and attain great success.
