Papers on Jane AustenComment on Jane Austens View of MarriageJane Austen is a quiet sunny little woman. Her life gives little opportunity for the biographer. With her sister she is educated at home, and passes her life very quietly, cheerfully. She doesnt marry, but her writings about love are very wonderful and successful. I admire her very much.In her famous novel Pride and Prejudice, she elaborates her view of marriage. She talks about four pairs of marriage in her novel, Jane and Mr. Bingley, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, Charlotte and Mr. Collins, Lydia and Mr. Wickham. Jane is a simple, innocent girl and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. Kitty doesnt have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. Elizabeth pursues equality, independence and love. Mr. Darcy pursues inner beauty and love. Jane and Mr. Bingley pursue love and inner quality. Charlotte and Mr. Collins pursue material life and economic foundation. Lydia and Mr. Wickham pursue appearance and sexual. Austen thinks that it is wrong to get married for the property, money and position; Get married and does not consider that above-mentioned factors are unwise too. So, she objects to getting married for money, objecting to regarding the marriage as a trifling matter. She emphasizes the importance of the ideal marriage, and regards men and womens emotion as the foundation stone which concludes the ideal marriage. She thinks love is the most important factor in marriage. But fortune is also very important. In her book, the woman protagonist Elizabeth comes from the little landlords family. She is a beautiful girl and she is pursued by a rich and powerful man Darcy. But Elizabeth doesnt accept him, because she dislikes his arrogant. Because of this arrogant, she thinks that it is impossible to have the same opinion and ideal marriage between them. After a long times observation, when Darcy changes his attitude, Elizabeth removes prejudice for him and marries him. Then they have a happy life. From this, we can realize the attitude that Austen treats love. Even if you have many possessions, but you havent a good inner quality, you can not get a good love. I agree with her. In modern society, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some peoples mind. Moreover, more and more people think that money can solve everything, even the love. I dont think so. If you marry a man who you dont like, you will not feel happy. Because you will think what he does is wrong. You will not feel satisfied. You will often quarrel with him. When he is in trouble or when he has not money, you will leave him. On the contrary, even if he is poor, but you love him very much, you are willing to accompany him and work together with him. You will feel happy, because you are with the person you really love. Money is important, but it is not the most important. Money can let you have everything you want, but true love you can not get. If a poor man loves me very much, I will marry him and support him and help him. Love is the basis of marriage. Nowadays, many girls want to marry a person who is very rich. A lot of stars marry millionaires or billionaires. For example, Li Xiang, the famous host of Hunan TV, married a person who had a lot of possessions. However, when she found that the person was not richer than her, she divorced with him. From this, we can know that marriage that is based on the money, can not last long. Of course, if you two have not money, you two will quarrel with each other. You want to buy something, but your husband doesnt agree. He thinks what you want to buy is not necessary. You will feel unhappy. If your demands are not satisfied often, you will be anger with your husband. Therefore, a happy marriage should have love and money. Love is the first.Thought of Marriage in Jane Austens Pride and PrejudiceThere is not enough time to finish the whole book of pride and prejudice, but through watching the movie of pride and prejudice, and reading the introduction and some parts of this novel, we can see this novel is Jane Austens representation of the realistic world. This book concerned with love, marriage. These are the eternal subjects of human beings. They are an important t part of our lives. In the chapter one of this book Mr. and Mrs. Bennet want her daughters marry to a wealth man, Mr. Bennet expresses a great pleasure for Mr. Bingley can earn four thousand a year, from which we can see Austens opinion is that money is one of the important elements of marriage. In today society we also take money into account of marriage. Money and love in the achievements of both marital important one and should not care! However, compared to the achievements of marriage for love is more important on some!Pride and Prejudice describes a variety of marriages, Darcy and Elizabeth, Jane and Bingley, Wickham and Lydia, and Charlotte Collins, pastor. Lucas Charlotte and Lydia on behalf of two extremes, the former only the pursuit of reliable storage room, the future will not be cold by the hunger: the latter is purely for sexual impulse, totally unmindful of the consequences. Charlotte has been through the marriage house, small yard, furniture and other furnishings of a comfortable small home, but ironically, in her happy life after marriage but not the husbands status. As long as Collins forgotten, and the rest everything is harmonious and comfortable, Lydia was a little girl confused by the rhetoric of Wickham, Wickham Living as one with no thought of the future life would be no protection. Wickham extorts at least 10000 through marriage. Their married life, the authors does not describe too much, so we can not imagine life without love what is the. Marriage is based on love, no love, a rare happy marriage. Darcys cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam is a count of the younger son can not inherit family property and title, but also one of Elizabeths adorer, he frankly said to Elizabeth, who are accustomed to spending their own, in the event of marriage can not but consider the money . He said that the question of marriage there is only a conditional Darcy from the constraints of money free to choose. Darcy also in terms of money and social status has the very advantage of him become so arrogant and his arrogance so Elizabeth has this bias against him. Darcy he first time to propose to Elizabeth to be out rightly ruled out the possibility of. Elizabeth will not marry him because he was very rich, no love, she would prefer not to marry, so she refuses Collins, later she refused Darcy. No love but with tens of millions should not get married, This view of Elizabeth is also of Austins view. Darcy was later changed in order to Elizabeth has always been the arrogance of their own, because he really fell in love with Elizabeth, his own changes, changed the views of Elizabeth to him, accepted him slowly, Fall in love with him. Finally get married. Elizabeth can be said that Austins own portrayal of the author, her marriage, through the Elizabeth we can watch one of the authors are not despise the kind of love, marriage, are opposed to no economic foundation of marriage. Money and love in the achievements of both marital important one and should not care! However, compared to the achievements of marriage for love is more important on some! A happy marriage must be based on true love. However, marriage included many things, which were property, personality and rating.Jane Austin, as the famous nineteenth century woman writer, expresses her own viewpoints at marriage and love by describing four different marriages in Pride and Prejudice.Jane didnt marry in her real life. She refused to marry a wealthy and promising man chosen by her parents because she didnt love him. She loved an intelligent but poorly young Irish man though their parents and relatives objected them. But at last, Jane gave up her love with a consideration of the happy marriage and love, and, didnt marry in life.Though Jane Austin didnt own marriage in her life, marriage and love are the main themes in her works especially in Pride and Prejudice. In this novel, we can find authors ideas about marriage and love through the analysis of those four different types of marriages.Marriage could not only depend on the property, which is well described in the combination of vulgar Collins and ordinary Charlotte. Collins is eagerly to find another one to regain his face while Charlotte is eagerly to marry a man with good education and wealth. Charlotte felt that the life would be better if there is no Collins after their marriage. Such marriage without love is too practical, so it is a kind of superficial marriage without happiness. Apparently, it results in a despicable marriage. This type of marriage also suggests that happy marriage should have true love, which is not owned by the couple of dissolute Wickham and empty-minded Lydia. We can say this is a kind of impromptu love and marriage without true love and responsibility. Of course, such kind of marriage is doomed to be a tragedy. The marriage of the able man-Bingley and the beautiful girl-Jane is ideal in most peoples eyes. They love each other, Jane is beautiful enough to make Bingley love her and Bingley is rich enough to keep Jane happy. In this couple, marriage should be based on love and closely association with property and social status. The fourth marriage is the ideal marriage in Jane Austins mind. Jane wrote herself in the novel as the character of Elizabeth. Elizabeth objects the marriage for money and opposes the thoughtless marriage but stresses the importance of emotional factors. In the novel, Elizabeth refuses to marry Collins and rejects Darcy in the first time though he is wealthy and has high social status. After Darcy getting rid of his bad habits, they begin to understand each other and then fall in love with each other. Finally they get engaged. From the four marriages, we can see that Austen expresses her views on love and marriage only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding, respect and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire. The writer demonstrates her concept about love and marriage: love and marriage can not only be decided by the property and social status, but also be based on mutual affection, mutual interesting and true love. The viewpoints of marriage and love above are also suitable in our life, which will make right marriage and love views to orients our lives.Jane Austens view of marriageI havent finished reading the whole novel Pride and Prejudice, but Ive watched every film version of this great piece. From the novel, I discovered Jane Austens view of marriage. The novel Pride and Prejudice reflects the status of middle class women in marriage during the transitional period between the 18th and the 19th century. For most women then, marriage was not for love but for the guarantee of economic status. Austens marriage concept was influenced by her biographical background, class and experiences. She believes love is the most fundamental and important condition for a happy marriage, which should also be based on a large amount of money or a considerable fortune. It is perfect for one to get love and money at the same time. All these ideas are illustrated clearly in her masterpiece Pride and Prejudice, so it is the reflection of her concepts of marriage. Which should we choose between love or money when we cant choose these two things at the same time? And which style of marriage is a better one? Jane Austen described four kinds of marriages and compared them so as to show her likes and dislikes for different types of people. She expressed well her view of marriage in Pride and Prejudice which considered as a banner that advocated people should get married for love instead of only for money. To a certain extent, Pride and Prejudice was the writers hope. The actress Elizabeth was the incarnation of Austen. Elizabeth and Darcys marriage was an ideal marriage in Janes heart and also in many peoples. Jane described some other styles of marriages to show us her view of marriage. Pride and Prejudice mainly describes the development of the relationship between Elizabeth Bennet, an intelligent young woman and the daughter of a country gentleman, and Fitzwilliam Darcy, a rich and haughty aristocratic landowner. Darcy and Elizabeth are both clever and characterized as people with strong individualities and independent thinking. On love and marriage they have definite views as they think that a marriage should be a marriage of love and ought to rely on love as its cornerstone. Darcy is rich and from a noble family. Being snobbish, he thinks it is easy for him to gain real love and happiness. If he only thought of money and social position, it would be more natural for him to choose Miss De Bourgh or Miss Bingley. But he would not do so for he believed there was no love between them. As for Elizabeth, he likes her because she is quick and clever. Gradually his admiration grows into real love. At first he did worry about the disadvantages of marrying Elizabeth, especially the vulgar behavior of some of her family members and the humble position of her relatives. But at last his love for her succeeded in overcoming his vanity and he put love above all.Elizabeth, like Darcy, also seeks for true love. She will by no means accept a marriage without love. She regards the marriage of her parents, in which there is no love, as painful, unfortunate and not beneficial to the children. She would not have refused Mr. Collins, if she had only considered property and a comfortable life. She is not that sort of person. She despises Mr. Collins personality and expresses her dislike frankly. Thus she rejected him resolutely. Her first impressions of Darcy were very bad. She was annoyed with his pride and didnt like him at all. Besides, she thought that Darcy didnt love her nor respect her. She rejects his offer of marriage the first time when she says that you are the last man in the world whom I can ever be prevailed on to marry.Jane Austen shows a marked preference for the marriage of the hero Darcy and the heroine Elizabeth over all the others, praising it as an example for all young people. In her letter to her sister Cassandra she said of Elizabeth Bennet, I must confess that I think her as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print. Being an unmarried woman, Jane Austen was acutely sensitive and highly imaginative. Her sensitivity and wisdom helped her see the relations between marriage and wealth and the relations between marriage and the social system. By saying “It is wrong to marry for money, but it was silly to marry without it”, Jane Austen actually expressed her concept of an ideal marriage that is the marriage based on love and with money. People like Pride and Prejudice is not only because the plot was very charming, but also because this book transferred a message which exist in peoples heart at all time. Thats a hope to get a happy marriage. In Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice, she embodies four different marriages. The first is the marriage of Charlotte and Collins, their marriage is lucky and natural. They get married without any expectation. After being refused by Elizabeth, Collins is eagerly to find another one to regain his face while Charlotte is eagerly to marry a man with good education and wealth. So they get together. Such marriage without love is too practical, so it is a kind of superficial marriage without happiness. The second marriage is between Lydia and Wickham. This marriage is one without love but only to satisfy their aspiration. It is a kind of impromptu love and marriage without true love and responsibility. Such couple only seek having had the experience but not everlasting and unchanging. It is doomed to be a tragedy. The third marriage is of Jane and Mr. Bingley. Their marriage is ideal in most peoples eyes. Mr. Bingley is an able man with a large fortune and also he is very well-behaved, Jane is a beautiful girl with a kind heart. Of course, this couple meets many setbacks, but the lovers get married at last and they live a happy life as their marriage bases on a favorite of mutual good impression and true love. In my opinion, the fourth marriage of Darcy and Elizabeth is the main theme of the works. Mr. Darcy is very rich and has high social status. In Elizabeths eyes, he is arrogant and unreasonable. Darcy loves her when he first saw Elizabeth. After realizing the opinion of Elizabeth towards him, Mr. Darcy begins to get rid of those bad habits quietly to crate her taste and get impression and love of her. Because of Darcys perfect behavior and good education, Elizabeth gradually eliminates the prejudice on Darcy. Then they spontaneously fall in love. Then they get married and have happy family lives. The marriage of Charlotte and Collins bases on money or benefit. In marriage, money is very important, but money is not the most important. Austen objects such marriage simply based on money. Austen understands completely that the social environment makes man obey not only in material but in psychology, which improved that Austen is a rational author that she prefers true love to survival. The marriage of Lydia and Wickham bases on vanity and carelessness. This couples marriage is unfortunate caused by rashness and vanity. The marriage between Jane and Mr. Bingley bases on same interests and true love, so they can live a happy life. Then the marriage of Darcy and Elizabeth bases on true love. From the four marriages, we can see that Austen expresses her views on love and marriage only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire. In her mind, marriage and property and social status are interconnected. But marriage should be based on the mutual respect ,understanding and true love. She objects the marriage for money and opposes the thoughtless marriage.Jane Austens view of marriageJane Austen was born in Hampshire in 1775, a country priest family located in Hants, the village of Kingston, Sidemen in north England. She was a beautiful, talented middle class woman with extraordinary temperament and good cultivation. Her six novelsSense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, Manshifeierde Manor, Emma, Persuasion all describe more than marriage.”. The time she lived in was 18th century, at that time love and marriage is closely associated with property and society. People tent to marry person who had a lot of money and higher social statue. For example, a beautiful woman might be able to find a rich husband, or a charring and handsome man could woo a rich young girl. In these marriages, money was the only consideration. All this impacts her a lot. So in all her novels the love-making of her young people, though serious and sympathetic, is subduced by humor to the ordinary plane emotion on which most of us live.I think that in her all works, she demonstrates her marriage concept: love and marriage is closely associated with property and society, however, love and marriage can not only be decided by the property and social status. An ideal marriage should be based on mutual affection and respect. She rejects the marriage based on wealth and stresses the element of emotion in a marriage. Especially in the book pride and prejudice. Jane Austen com
