Here are four wonderful festivals around the world that happen in spring. If you want to know more about them, please click here or visit :/ SongKran Thailand Dates: 13th-15th, April In Thailand, people celebrate a festival called SongKran, when people head out to the streets with water guns to spray everyone who walks past. Naghol Vanuatu Dates: Every Saturday from April to May Every year, villagers come together to celebrate the harvest of yams, an important part in the peoples diet in Vanuatu. The festival is most famous for its land diving ceremony. During the ceremony men and boys dive to the ground from high wooden towers with only two thin vines (藤) attached to their ankles. Cherry Blossom Viewing Japan Dates: The cherry blossom season is different from year to year depending on the weather forecast. The festival is well-known. Japanese celebrate the days when the flowers finally blossom. Only a few days later, the petals (花瓣) fall to the ground, like pink snowflakes. That means the traditional festival only lasts for several days. In Japan, almost everyone has picnics in the parks to view the flowers. Sinhalese New Year Sri Lanka Dates: 13th or 14th, April Just like in many other countries in South or South East Asia, this is the time when the Sinhalese celebrate the traditional New Year, an ancient celebration which marks the end of the harvest season and is one of two times of the year when the sun is straight above Sri Lanka. There are a lot of delicious foods during the celebration. 1. What may happen to a tourist walking in the street during SongKran in Thailand? A. He may get wet. B. He may be shot by the locals. C. He may enjoy delicious foods. D. He may see some petals falling. 2. How is Cherry Blossom Viewing different from the other three festivals? A. It is a traditional festival. 根据小标题“SongKran Thailand”下的“In Thailand, people celebrate a festival called SongKran, when people head out to the streets with water guns to spray everyone who walks past.(在泰国,人们庆祝一个叫做泼水节的节 日,人们会拿着水枪走上街头,向每一个走过的人喷水)”可知,在泰国泼水节期间,走在 街上的游客会被水淋湿。故选 A。 根据小标题“Cherry Blossom Viewing Japan”下的“Dates: The cherry blossom season is different from year to year depending on the weather forecast.(日期:根据天气预报,每年樱花盛开的季节都不一样)”可知,赏樱花与其他三 个节日不同之处在于它每年随天气情况而变化。 根据第一段“If you want to know more about them, please click here or visit :/ 可知,最可能在互联网上找到本文。故选 C。 B Voters in Colorado narrowly approved an initiative (计划), setting the stage for the return of gray wolves, which were wiped out in this area by the 1940s. This is the first time that a state has reintroduced an animal like this. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife department will lead the effort to establish a sustainable population of gray wolves in the western part of the state, beginning in 2022 or 2023. The Southern Rocky Mountains, where there used to be a lot of them, contain millions of acres of suitable habitat that could support several hundred wolves or more, biologists say. However, some say its unwise to leave the question to voters. “State biologists have previously declined to introduce wolves. Theres a reason its never been done before.” says Shawn Martini, spokesperson for Coloradans for Protecting Wildlife, noting that most supporters are from urban areas and they dont have to live alongside the animal, unlike people living in the countryside. Farmers and hunters dont favor the initiative, either. Farmers worry wolves will kill their cattle while hunters worry they will lose elk (驼 鹿) to the predators. On the other hand, according to Jonathan Proctor, a conservationist with the Defenders of Wildlife, reintroducing wolves will restore Colorados natural balance. They help thin out sick animals, maintaining healthy populations of deer and elk. The remains of wolf kills also provide food for “eaters of the dead”, including wolverines, eagles, and bears. He also emphasizes the experience of living with wolves in other places, like the Northern Rockies, has shown that wolves are not the threat people sometimes make them out to be. Reintroduction program biologists promise to make it a priority to work with people living alongside wolves, providing training and resources to keep the wolves out of the farms in the first place. And a program will be funded to pay farmers for their lost cattle. 4. What can we learn about the Southern Rocky Mountains from the text? A. They are heavily populated. B. They were inhabited by wolves. C. They are in the east of Colorado. D. They are home to small animals. 5. Whats Shawn Martinis opinion about the return of the gray wolves? A. Its unfair to make it happen by voting. B. Its welcomed by urban and rural people. C. State biologists shouldnt have opposed it. D. The wolves should be put somewhere else. 6. What will the program biologists probably do first? A. Buy more cattle. B. Reach out to the locals. C. Relocate the wolves. D. Clear the site for wolves. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Wolves are Coming Home. B. No Worries about Wolves. C. Always Vote for What is Right. D. Wolves Help Local Ecosystem. 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. B 7. A 【解析】 这是一篇新闻报道。报道了科罗拉多州通过投票的方式决定将重新引进灰狼,不同的人对 此有不同的看法。 【4 题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“The Southern Rocky Mountains, where there used to be a lot of them, contain millions of acres of suitable habitat that could support several hundred wolves or more, biologists say. (落基山脉南部有几万平方公里的适 宜栖息地,灰狼曾在这里繁衍生息,生物学家表示,这里可以供几百只甚至更多的灰狼生 活) ” ,可知,狼曾经居住在落基山脉南部。故选 B。 【5 题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“However, some say its unwise to leave the question to voters. 根据最后一段中“Reintroduction program biologists promise to make it a priority to work with people living alongside wolves, providing training and resources to keep the wolves out of the farms in the first place. (重新引入 计划的生物学家将优先与和狼一起生活的人合作,首先提供培训和资源,让狼远离农场) ”可知,该计划的生物学家首先会和与狼一起生活的当地人接触合作,故选 B。 【7 题详解】 主旨大意题。新闻报道的主题常位于第一段。根据第一段“Voters in Colorado narrowly approved an initiative (计划 ), setting the stage for the return of gray wolves, which were wiped out in this area by the 1940s. This is the first time that a state has reintroduced an animal like this. (科罗拉多州公民投票以微弱优势通过了 一项计划,为重新引入灰狼铺平了道路;20 世纪 40 年代,灰狼在科罗拉多州被消灭。这 是首次一个州以这样的方式重新引入一种动物)”可知,本报道主要是围绕科罗拉多州通过 投票的方式重新引入灰狼展开,也就是狼要重新回到他们之前的居住地了。所以选项 A“狼要回家了”概括文章大意,是最合适的标题,故选 A。 C The first set of Chinese stories presented in English scripts (剧本), titled Stories of China: Performed in English, was officially published by Foreign Languages Press. Surprisingly, the dream of human immortality is, according to some scientists, not so far out of reach. Professor Brian Cox, Googles Ray Kurzweil, and Tesla head Elon Musk all agree on not only the possibility of human immortality but also that it is not too far away. The solution, they say, is something called the “technological singularity”. The singularity is a combination of humankind with computers, namely uploading the contents of ones brain onto a hard drive. In that way, a persons consciousness can stay alive after a physical body gets worse. This is based on the idea that a human brain is simply a machine, and there is, according to Professor Cox, “no reason at all why we cannot simulate (模拟) human intelligence,” using a computer. Although Professor Cox did not say when the singularity would occur, Googles Ray Kurzweil predicts that the singularity will happen as early as 2045. By 2100, he says, human body parts will be replaceable by machine parts. Further, by uploading our brains onto a computer, we will be able to toy with it, and become “able to expand the scope of our intelligence a billion fold. ” Elon Musk agreed with the asessments of the other scientists, even going so far as saying that the chances that we are not in a computer simulation right now are “one in billions” . Google is preparing for a future where you can download personalities onto robots. For example, you might be able to download onto your robot a celebrity personality, or of the personality of your deceased grandmother. The search engine giant filed a patent for this download process recently. So they definitely believe that the singularity is just around the corner. All you have to do is hold on until 2045, and soon you can effectively live in the cloud. 12. What does the underlined word “immortality” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Living forever. B. Rebirth after death. C. Being perfect. D. Continuous improvement. 13. How did the writer illustrate the idea of human immortality in the text? A. By giving examples. B. By presenting quotations. C. By logically reasoning. D. By making a description. 14. Which of the following can Elon Musk most probably agree with? A. Computers are much smarter than humankind. B. Computers can never surpass humankind at all. C. Computers and humankind are quite different. D. Computers can be another version of humankind. 15. How can humankind improve by 2100 according to the text? A. Physically and intelligently. B. Individually and corporately. C. Psychologically and spiritually. D. Emotionally and materially.
