OutreachLatino Affairs of Prince Georges County Offices of the County Executive Offices of the County Executive Why a Joint County Gang Prevention Task Force?nCounty Executives Doug Duncan and Jack Johnson initiated a coordinated planning process to facilitate coordination of efforts related to gang activity and gang violence in Montgomery County and Prince Georges County nA collaborative planning initiative will help mobilize public&private agencies which were previously working independently on gang related issuesRole of Joint County Gang Prevention Task Force nOversee the development and content of the Joint County Prevention Task Force Final Report and Recommendations to County Executives Doug Duncan and Jack Johnson Purpose of Joint County Gang Prevention Task Force Within each county,the respective Gang Prevention Task Forces will:nMobilize community neighborhoods,public,private,business,faith community sectors and community representatives to respond to issues of gang activitynIdentify opportunities to engage in regional partnerships to reduce and eliminate gang activities in county neighborhoods Outcomes Expected from Joint County Task ForcenIncreased safety and well-being of youth and families in Montgomery and Prince Georges counties nIncreased awareness and capacity of families and communities to respond to factors that contribute to gang activity nReduction of gang recruitment,gang participation,and gang violence in local communitiesJoint County Gang Prevention Task Force Operating StructureThe two Countys Steering Committees will compose the Joint County Task ForcePurpose of Joint Task Force:Exchange key data and information developed by the respective county task forces Develop written recommendations for County Executives re:gang prevention strategiesMontgomery County Task Force Steering CommitteePrince Georges County Task Force Steering CommitteeJOINT COUNTY GANG PREVENTION TASK FORCE County regions and neighborhoods County regions and neighborhoodsJoint County Task Force Planning Group Purpose of the Joint County Planning Group Meet on a monthly basis to review direction and progress.Review reports submitted by each county task force&prepare for submission to full membership of Joint Task Force.Develop framework for final report&recommendations to be approved by the full membership of the Joint County Task County Task Forces will work in partnership with the Joint County Task ForcenDepartment Support representatives will provide data and analysis to assist the Montgomery County Task Force members staff to support the Task Force Steering Committee and Subcommittees nDepartment representatives will attend Task Force Steering Committee and Subcommittee meetings to provide policy,program and operations of the Montgomery County Gang Prevention Task ForcenOversee the development and content of the county Gang Prevention Task Force Final Report and RecommendationsnWork in collaboration with Prince Georges County to achieve the work of the Joint County Gang Prevention Task ForcePrevention Subcommittee The Prevention Subcommittee will:nIdentify and analyze factors that require attention to address the issue of gang activity in neighborhoods and schoolsnIn collaboration with public and private organizations,identify prevention strategies to respond to issues of gang activity in schools and communitiesIntervention Subcommittee The Intervention Subcommittee will:nIdentify key intervention strategies needed to address youth at risk,youth engaged in gang activity and youth seeking to remove themselves from gang involvement nIn collaboration with public and private organizations,recommend intervention strategies to respond to issues of gang activity in schools and communitiesSuppression Subcommittee The Suppression Subcommittee will:nIdentify key enforcement strategies required to contain,reduce and eliminate gang activity(criminal behaviors and acts of gang violence)in communities and schoolsnIn collaboration with public and private organizations,recommend suppression strategies to respond to issues of gang activity in schools and communitiesSteering scope of gang activity in Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties.2.Identify primary geographic areas and populations which require concentrated gang prevention efforts.3.Identify existing community resources available to respond to gang activity.Charge to the County Task Force(continued)4.Identify opportunities for coordinated inter-county and inter-departmental planning to implement gang prevention strategies.5.Conduct municipal/community town hall meeting(s)to obtain input from community residents.Charge to the County Task Force(continued)6.Identify key public and private and community partnerships essential for implementation of gang prevention initiatives in schools and communities.7.Recommend cultural and linguistic competency levels needed to implement gang prevention
