2005年12月考题Should firecrackers and fireworks be allowed during the Spring FestivalIt is the custom in China to set off fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate the Spring Festival,the countrys most important traditional festival./Like Christmas to westerners,Spring Festival is the most important fiesta for Chinese.Many celebrations following different customs are held to mark the day,among them setting off fireworks and firecrackers is a common way and is believed to be able to break the darkness and scare away demons and bad luck.However,during the recent years,many cities in China have enacted bans on firecrackers in the city.Accordingly,it triggers a controversy among citizens.In my opinion,firecrackers and fireworks should be allowed during the Spring Festival./I think we should hold the custom of burning fireworks in the spring festival.For Firstly,fireworks have a longstanding tradition in Chinas Spring Festival.They have been popular for over 2,000 years,and have become a festival essential.The sound of it,the smell of it and the amazing stunning flashing sight of it make us excited and bring us the true atmosphere of enjoyment out of such important holidays.Secondly,regarded as the most exciting event,especially to children during the festival,setting firecrackers means biding farewell to the past year and welcoming the New Year.Without fireworks and firecrackers,there will not be any atmosphere of festival,and make people feel that they have lost something deeply affected their lives.To ban fireworks and firecrackers in Spring Festival will make many people distressed.Thirdly,fireworks and firecrackers should not be totally forbidden because of security problems and environmental pollution.The danger brought about by fireworks can be reduced to a lower degree as far as the government enhances crackdown on illegal production and increases peoples awareness of security.In order to reduce environmental pollution,the government can designate some specific places for people to enjoy the beauty and excitement of fireworks and firecrackers together.Against I think fireworks and firecrackers should be forbidden during Spring Festival.1.Firstly,they are noise-makers in the city.Many people complain that the sound of firecrackers are too loud and noisy for people to hear Spring Festival TV Programmes and many children have been repeatedly disturbed in the dream by the bouts of loud explosions in the deep night.It is an extremely unpleasant experience in such time of the year.2.Secondly,fireworks and firecrackers will cause great pollution to the environment.The fumes generating from the firework explosions will cause air pollution and seriously affect the air quality.Usually the air during the first day of the new year is too choking to breath.Thirdly,the ban on fireworks and firecrackers can greatly reduce the danger brought by them.In the past years,many people are reported to be injured by firework explosion.The danger of fire is another direct consequence of careless lighting of fireworks and firecrackers.Fourthly,for those who think the ban on fireworks will reduce the atmosphere of Spring Festival,they can use some other methods to make up the pity.For example,s a replacement,some buy tapes with firecracker sounds to listen to,some break little balloons to get the sound too,while others buy firecracker handicrafts to hang in the living room.Of course,its hard for people to totally accept the ban on fireworks and firecrackers in a short period of time.But I do believe that with the increasing awareness of safety and environmental protection,more and more people will willing abide by this rule.Now people are allowed to play fireworks in a limited time and limited area is a good decision made by the government.
