(10分)阅读理解Have you ever wondered what goes through your mind when you choose where to sit in a new classroom? Or in a waiting room full of strangers? Or on a bus? Researchers have found out some interesting facts.Perhaps unsurprisingly, we prefer to sit closer to people like ourselves. Girls sit by girls and boys sit by boys. Adults sit together and young people choose another young person to sit near. But it goes further than this. We even choose to sit near someone who looks like us. People with glasses are more likely to sit near other people with glasses. People with long hair sit closer to other people with long hair.We seem to believe that people with similar habits or hobbies will share similar attitude and we are more likely to be accepted by people like ourselves or even, we think we may be safer with people who look like us. Sometimes thats true but its a pity if we always stick to the same people, the same group. The danger in always staying in our comfort zone (舒适区)is that we just recycle the same opinions, the same tastes and the same ideas. We lose the chance to learn something new, find out about interesting things, hear funny stories and discover difference. When we always stick to the same people, how can we ever break down the barriers which prevent us from getting to know people with different ideas? And how can we avoid the ignorance (无知),which too often leads to prejudice (偏见) and even fear? If instead you want to live in a society that opens to changes and new things and different opinions, be the cat among the pigeons.Move out of your comfort zone. Go and sit next to someone different. And dont just sit there in silence. Say hello. Ask a question. Start a conversation. Thats how we make friends. Thats how we learn about people. Thats how we open our minds to new ideas. Thats how we live an exciting life.(1)From the passage, we know that people prefer sitting by someone who A . is like themselvesB . has a sense of humorC . is open-mindedD . lives an exciting life(2)People like staying in their comfort zone because they may A . remain comfortable and specialB . be accepted easily and feel safeC . find out more interesting thingsD . discover differences among themselves(3)The underlined word barriers” in Paragraph 4 means . Because we want to live in a society full of humour.(5)What is the title of this passage? A . Just to be ourselvesB . Learn more about the foreign countriesC . Live an exciting lifeD . Jump out of the comfort zone24. (8分)阅读理解 The word, photography, was first used in 1839. It comes from the Greek words that mean to write with light. But photography could only give people static pictures. So scientists were trying hard to find ways to make pictures that can move. They made lots of experiments, but failed again and again. It was Eadweard Muybridge who finally succeeded. He was the first photographer to try this successfully. But how did he make it? It was an interesting story.Back in 1872, people didnt know exactly(确切地) whether all four of a horses hooves(蹄) left the ground at the same time when it was running. A gentleman called Leland Stanford made a bet with his friend about it. Most people believed that a horse always had one hoof on the ground, or it would fall over. But Stanford didnt think so.At that time, it was hard to know who could win the bet, because a horses legs move so fast that it is impossible to tell just by looking. So they needed a way to record the movement of a running horse. Then Stanford offered $ 25,000 to the famous photographer, Muybridge, to help find the answer. In the beginning, Muybridge failed to get clear images, but he didnt give up. He continued to improve his cameras. In 1878, after many experiments, he managed to get a sequence(连续) of 12 photos. One of them clearly showed that all four of the horses hooves were off the ground at the same time. And when the photos moved fast, people could see a horse running.Though Edison is usually considered as the person who created the first movie in 1889, it was the work of Eadweard Muybridge and the bet that led to Edisons invention.(1)The underlined word static in Paragraph 1 most probably means .
