This year , many schools have raised lunch prices to fight rising costs. Students pay about $2 a meal now, That is 27 cents more than last year. But they still get a good meal . The average cost for schools to produce one meal has gone up 30 cents, and is now $3. So, how do schools neither make money nor lose money ? To start , the government pays for a small part of the difference . Schools have to make up the rest ,Peggy Eller, a leader of school nutrition services in Hudson , Wisconsin, said her area is cutting costs by using fewer paper products and serving smaller portions . Well, portion control is one key to healthy eating ! The push for more healthy food has grown in recent years. One in five kids aged 6 to 19 is overweight. Being overweight can cause health problems. Many states passed laws that require schools to serve nutritious meals. Recently, more than 90% of all US schools have taken the fat away from lunches. Foods that are high in fat , salt and sugar have been replaced by low-fat milk, fresh fruits and vegetables . These new portions on lunch menus have encouraged kids to change their eating habits. “It makes it easier to try new things at home,” said Savanna Mackey, a Florida fifth grader. Students need healthy meals to grow strong and do well in school. The rising food prices wont stand in the way, says school nutritionist Janey Thornton. “Well just be more clever in how we do things.” 56. What does Paragraph 1 mainly tell us? A. How dare he treat me like that?” I thought. Id changed one long sentence, and corrected grammar-something I thought I was paid to do. I fact I d been warned . One workmate took me aside the first day and reminded me of his temper. One day , another thing left me in tears so I stormed into his office angrily. “hat ?” he asked. Suddenly I knew what I must do. After all, he earned it. “Jack, the way youve been treating me is wrong, “ I said . Jack seems nervous. “I make you promise. Ill be a friend. Ill treat you as you should be treated, with respect and kindness,” he said. With these words , I left. Jack avoided me the rest the week. Another day I left a note on his desk, reading “Hope your day is going great.” Over the next few weeks , Jack reappeared, but nothing unhappy happened again. One year later, I had breast cancer. The last day of my hospital stay, Jack came. He placed some flowers beside me, saying, “Tulips.” I smiled, not understanding. He cleared his throat.” If you plant them when you get home, theyll come up next spring.” Tears clouded my eyes and I whispered, “Thank you”. Jack held my hand firmly, saying, “Youre welcome. In some are cases it might be right to follow the crowd, but in most case this can be one big mistake. Actually there are reasons why we shouldnt follow the crowd blindly. According to a study, people tend to follow the crowd when they arent sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding whats right and whats wrong! This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it wasnt right. A man who wants to be successful always hope for others guidance and he usually follows the same path of most people, but the question this man never asked himself is: are all of those people successful? Of course not! If you want to follow a crowd, then follow a successful one. However, in real life youll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and thats why following the crow makes no sense at all. Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they are greater than you in number, then sooner or later youll discover that you are making decisions that you might regret later. However, should we never follow the crowd? No. Im not trying to say you should never follow the crowd, but instead Im just asking you to think wisely before you take a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you have doubts about the direction theyre moving in , dont follow them blindly. 64. According to the passage, most people follow others blindly mainly because_. A. they are affected by their peers B. they dont believe in themselves C. they feel it safe to stay with others D. they are weaker than other people 65. Those who follow others because they want to succeed should think about _ A. whether they are in the same path B. whether those being followed are successful C. whether they are moving in a right direction D. whether that are more successful ones to follow 66.What can we learn from Paragraph 4 ? A. It needs some time to think wisely B. We shouldnt regret what we have done C. We should think wisely before deciding to follow others D. Making others follow us is better than following others. 67. Which of the following will the author agree with? A. It is wrong to follow other people B. Those who follow others wont succeed. C. Only those foolish people will follow others. D. One should use his head before he follows others D. Rivers of air that move both storms and airplanes around the planet have been moving poleward over the past 26 years. The move of these so-called “jet streams” has widened the planets tropical belt(热带地区)and could widen dry areas around the world in the coming years. “If they move another 2 to 3 degrees poleward this century, very dry areas such as the Sahara Desert could move farther towards the pole, perhaps by a few hundred miles.” Said study team member John Wallace. Measuring heat in the atmosphere, researchers found the troposphere (对流层) at 30 degrees latitude about the places of Austin, Texas and Cordoba, Argentina in the Americans has warned by about 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. That troposphere extends up to about 7.5 miles from Earths surface and is the part of the atmosphere in which most weather happens. That moves the western moving jet streams that blow through the troposphere farther away from the equator. The new results suggest that the tropic expended 140 miles , over the past 26 years. It means that the warming of the troposphere could change the paths of rain and snow storms poleward and reduce winter rainfall in places such as southern Europe and southern Australia. Researchers thin the effect of the tropical expansion could be similar to that of El Nino. a condition in which warm water in the west Pacific moves eastward toward the Americas ,causing warmer, drier summers there, so tropical expansion might have caused the unusually dry conditions seen in the American Southwest and Mediterranean Europe in recent years. Its still unclear whether the jet stream movement is caused by human-caused global warming. Another possibility is that the lack of Earths ozone layer is heating up the troposphere. 68. According to the passage , which of the following basically causes the tropics expansion? A. The global warning B. The lack of ozone layer C. The great change of climate. D. The stronger force of jet streams. 69. We can learn from the passage that EL Nino _. A. is another name of jet streams B. happens every year in the tropical areas C. moves from the west Pacific to the east D. often causes warmer and wetter summers 70. What does the passage mainly tell us ? A. The tropics expend and deserts may be growing B. The world temperature is increasing greatly C. More storms will happen for jet streams. D. The troposphere is changing greatly. 第二节(共5小题;每题2分, 满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Health is the most important thing in the world. Nothing is more important than health.
