If the answer is yes, then have you ever thought about why? You may maintain that travelling can help you expand your scope of knowledge, especially geographical and historical learning. It will provide more chances for you to enjoy food and try on clothes that you otherwise possibly cannot have.A famous English author Francis Bacon (15611626) makes a point when he says that, “Travel, in the younger sort, is a part of education; in the elder, a part of experience.” Evidence of leisure travel can be traced as far back as ancient Babylon. This year, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council, the 1 billionth tourist will cross an international boundary before the end of this month. That means that one in seven people on the planet travelled this year, something that would not have been possible a few decades ago.Around 20 years ago only the rich could travel. While the US. and France remain the two largest destinations for world travel, experts say much of the explosive growth in tourism has been to countries like Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and the Ivory Coast, which werent even on the world tourism map a decade ago.The top five destinations in the world, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, are Paris, London, New York, the Mediterranean, Turkey.Several factors have led to the boom in world travel. The prosperity(富裕) of people in Asia is one factor.People in Asian developing countries have lifted their ines above middleclass levels in the past few years. And a lot of them have used their new wealth to travel. In addition, travel costs have been reduced thanks to the rapid development of transportation, and petition between airlines to give customers the best prices.TopicTravellingAdvantagesEnrich knowledge, especially in 1_ and history.Taste different 2._ and buy different clothes.Francis Bacon thinks that travel is a part of education and a part of experience.Development 3._from ancient Babylon.Only the wealthy people could go on a trip about two 4._ago.The number of people travelling abroad will 5._ as many as 1 billion before the end of this month.Tourist6_The US. and France remain the two most popular countries for world travel.Tourism has developed 7._ in countries like Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and the Ivory Coast. The top five destinations in the world are Paris, London, New York, the Mediterranean and Turkey.Factors 8_ in the popularity of global tourism Asian people have got 9._ than before.People have 10._ less money on travel because of convenient transportation and price petition between airlines.答案:1.geography2.food3.Date4.decades5.reach6destinations7.explosively/quickly/rapidly/fast8resulting9.richer/wealthier10.spentB卷 完形填空Falling off a boxcar and landing on my head,I lost my sight when I was four years old. The finding inspired Joseph Allen, a psychologist at the University of Virginia, and his team to study whether experiences during teen years would influence adult health. So they followed 171 teens, starting when the kids were just 13. They interviewed each one every year for five years, and also spoke to these teens closest friends, who provided additional information about the quality of their friendships. The same 171 people were interviewed again at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each persons overall health. When the researchers analyzed the data, they found a strong connection between a teens behavior and adult health. Teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Whether teens held back their feelings or expressed them to close friends also influenced later health. Those who held back their feelings were more likely to be sick as adults. The connection held up even after the scientists accounted for other possible influences on health.Weight, family ine and drug use were all examined. So were mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. And in these people, such other factors did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did.Getting along with the crowd may have benefits, says Allen, but there are also drawbacks. Teens who are more independent tend to do better at school and work. And peer pressure may lead some kids to engage in risky behavior, such as smoking, drinking or using drugs. Dealing with it is an ongoing challenge,Allen acknowledges. “Finding the right balance is the key. Teens shouldnt lose heart for not finding this easy.”And, he adds,“Parents need to be understanding about the pressures teens face.”【解题导语】研究表明,与朋友较少或者没有朋友的青少年相比,有朋友的青少年在长大后更健康。当然,与朋友相处也有坏处。1Where can you probably read this passage?AScience fiction.
