ACareer criminals begin their antisocial behavior during their toddler (学步的儿童) years and may go on with a life of crime if their behavior isnt challenged, scientists have discovered. While most children grow out of their bad behavior by adulthood, a study found those who had “callous unemotional (冷漠无情的) characteristics” could grow up to have problems with the law later in life. Behavior characteristics such as a lack of sympathy and lying in childhood could have an impact years on.Luke Hyde, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Michigan, said, “These are signs for parents and doctors to watch out for, as they may signal more than just the terrible twos.” He said, “Parents both take care of their child and provide their childs genes so its been difficult to know if were seeing that parenting causes callous unemotional behaviors, or if it is just a sign of the genes being passed to the child.”The research also discovered that strict parenting is linked to the development of antisocial behavior. Scientists looked at 561 families in an adoption study that examined biological mothers antisocial behavior. The scientists found children of antisocial mothers were also more likely to exhibit the same behavior characteristics, despite having limited or no touch with them as they were adopted as babies.“The really exciting take-home message from this study is that small, day-to-day positive interactions (互动) that parents have with their young children can make a huge difference in childrens development, said Leslie Leve, a professor at the University of Oregon who co-led the data collection.“Even when children have inherited (遗传) a very challenging set of behaviors, hearing good job or receiving encouragement can help protect them from developing serious problems ing from their inherited difficulties,” he added. The study, worked on by scientists from the University of Michigan, Penn State University and the University of Oregon has been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. Researchers will follow the group of children through early adolescence to determine if these behaviors still continue to exist from the toddler years.1.Whats the main idea of the passage?A. Kids social behaviors are related to crime.B. Criminals begin their crimes during adolescence.C. Antisocial behaviors of kids could be on their way to a life of crime.D. Warmhearted kids are more likely to be criminals in the future.2.What conclusion might the scientists draw from the study?A. Antisocial behaviors might be inherited.B. The genes decide kids antisocial behaviors.C. Antisocial behaviors have nothing to do with crimes.D. Adopted babies surely have antisocial behaviors when they grow up.3.What can be inferred from the passage?A. Parenting is the main reason that causes kids antisocial behaviors.B. What causes career criminals to begin their crimes is their parents characteristics.C. Leslie Leve has a doubtful attitude to adoptive mothers active interactions with kids.D. Inherited antisocial behaviors of kids can be lightened by positive parenting.4.Why will researchers track kids process of growing?A. To make sure if kids behaviors will last.B. To make sure if praise will change kids.C. To determine if kids behaviors will be inherited.D. To determine if parents fort will protect kids. 【文章大意】研究人员发现孩子的反社会行为有可能使他们走向犯罪的道路,积极的育儿方式可以减轻孩子的反社会行为。1.C 【解析】主旨大意题。根据文章内容,特别是第一段中的“Career criminals begin their antisocial behavior during their toddler years and may go on with a life of crime if their behavior isnt challenged, scientists have discovered.”可知,本文主要介绍了孩子们的反社会行为有可能使他们走向犯罪的道路,故C项正确。3.D 【解析】推理判断题。根据第五段中的“Even when children have inherited (遗传) a very challenging set of behaviors, hearing good job or receiving encouragement can help protect them from developing serious problems ing from their inherited difficulties”可知,积极的育儿教育可以减轻孩子遗传的反社会行为,故D项正确。4.A 【解析】细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“Researchers will follow the group of children through early adolescence to determine if these behaviors still continue to exist from the toddler years. ”可知,研究人员追踪孩子的成长过程是为了弄清楚孩子的反社会行为是否会持续下去,故A项正确。BGot big plans for Friday night? Thats OK, we dont either.Guess well all have to make do by watching the celestial(天空的) show that will take place that night.First, there will be a full moon. Thats always fun, but this one will be a little more special. Its known as a “snow moon”. The name es from the fact that the heaviest snows usually fall during February, according to The Old Farmers Almanac. But if thats not special enough, theres also an eclipse(月食) that night. Itll be a penumbral lunar eclipse, meaning its a partial eclipse that leaves sections of the moon darkened by the earths shadow. No, it wont be as spectacular as those “blood moon” eclipses. Itll be subtler. The level of darkness it reaches during the eclipse may or may not be apparent;it just depends on where you are when you view it.In North America, the eclipse begins at 5:34 pm. ET and ends at 9:53 pm. ET, according to the astronomy website EarthSky. The eclipse will be at its height around 7:44 pm. ET.If thats still not enough, lets throw in a et(彗星) to the nights festivities.et 45P (it has a much longer name, but we wont burden you with it here) is visible as it flies by the earth. The et will get within 7.4 million miles of the planet as it makes its closest approach this weekend, according to Universe Today.et 45P will be most visible a couple of hours after the eclipse, so look to the skies again around 3 am. ET Saturday and find the greenishblue light with a tail. And dont forget, a total bigtime solar eclipse will streak across the United States on August 21st.【解题导语】本文是说明文,介绍了星期五晚上将会发生的天文现象。1According to the text, what can be viewed on Friday night?AA blood moon.BA total solar eclipse.CA partial lunar eclipse.DA et without a tail.C解析:细节理解题。根据第四段第二句可知,星期五晚上将会出现月偏食,故选C项。2If you want to see et 45P, you will need to Await around 7:44 pm. ETBstay up until 9:53 pm. ETCwake up before 3:00 am. ETDstart watching at 5:34 pm. ETC解析:细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中的“so look to the skies again around 3 am.ET Saturday”可知,要想看到45P彗星,你需要在凌晨三点之前起床。3The author writes the text with the purpose of Aintroducing basic astronomy to the mediaBsharing new discoveries with astronomy researchersCpromoting astronomical events among science studentsDinforming average readers of recent celestial phenomenaD解析:写作意图题。通读全文可知,文章介绍了星期五晚上将会发生的几个天文现象,因此作者的写作目的是介绍这些现象给读者。二、七选五。ing facetoface with your inadequacies(缺点)can be painful,to say the least._1_ It even makes you question yourself.Your kneejerk reaction may be to get defensive or even dismiss the critique entirely. But handling negative feedback with grace will not only make you look gracious, but it could ultimately help you grow as a person.Heres how to do it.1Be objective about the criticismBefore you jump to conclusions and begin to challenge the other persons opinion, take a step back and look at it objectively.Next time you get a bad review, dont immediately allow your emotions to get the better of you,but rather, take a moment to consider whether the criticism is at all accurate._2_2Avoid unnecessary conflictIf you decide that the point is valid,it may be hard to take.In your disfort, you may feel the urge to criticize the other person angrily and defend yourself._3_3Be open to the idea of change_4_ And it may be because of a concept called “cognitive dissonance” that can prevent us from changing even when thats what we need most.4Ask questionsIf youre open to using the criticism as a springboard to improvement, you will likely need more information._5_ Your emotions will be running high, and you may not be particularly receptive to extra information. However, when you feel ready,it could be worth revisiting the subject with the person who criticized you.Even if you dont agree with their advice, thank them and promise to consider it.AMost of us are pretty stubborn.BThere is no doubt that change is necessary.CBut its best to avoid getting into an argument.DBeing sensitive to criticism leads you nowhere.EIt challenges the way you believe people see you.FGive yourself a chance to really take in the information and evaluate it.GThe initial moment you hear it may not be the best time to ask for more details.【解题导语】听到别人对你的批评也许会很痛苦,但是如果优雅地处理这些问题,自己将变得更好。1E根据空后一句话可知,空处与下一句是递进关系,E项“这会挑战你认为别人看待你的方式”,所以E项符合语境。2F根据空前的“dont immediately allow your emotions to get the better of you,but rather, take a moment to consider whether the criticism is at all accurate”可知,空处应讲给自己一个机会真正吸收这些信息并对其进行评估。故F项符合语境。3C根据该段小标题“Avoid unnecessary conflict”可知,C项“但是最好避免陷入争吵”符合语境。4A根据空后的“And it may be because of a concept calledcognitive dissonance that can prevent us from changing even when thats what we need most”及本段小标题可知,A项“我们大部分人都很倔强”符合语境。5G根据空后的“Your emotions will be running high, and you may not be particularly receptive to extra information”并结合上文可知,空处应讲最开始听到批评时不适合问更多的细节,故G项符合语境。三、短文改错。Here is a funny story. One day three mouse said proudly to each other that they each could drink more wine,so they decided to have a drinking contest. At last they both felt dizzy. One suggested,“Will anybody go to the wine cellar to fetch another bottle of wine?” The first stood up and down then fell to the ground. The other two laughed and said,“He was drinking and couldnt walk.” The second stood up.He just made several steps and couldnt help thrown up.The third laughed hardly and then it was their turn. Dr.Carsten Flohr and his team at Kings College London presented the results of their population-based study in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.Researchers involved about 1,300 three-month-old babies from across the UK in this study. They looked specifically at the level of calcium carbonate(碳酸钙) in the water, which is a measure of water hardness. The level of chlorine(氯) in the familys water supply was also taken into consideration, as was the use of bathing products, and how regularly the babies were bathed. The babies were then examined for the presence of childhood eczema(湿疹). The natural barrier of their skin was also examined; babies were screened for the FLG gene which is associated with an affected skin barrier. The study found that hard water is linked to an 87 percent increased risk of eczema for babies of three months of age. Our study builds on growing evidence of a link between exposure to hard water and the risk of developing eczema in childhood. Its not yet clear whether calcium carbonate has a direct bad effect on the skin barrier, or whether other environmental factors directly related to water hardness, such as the waters pH, may be responsible, Dr. Carsten Flohr said. And the study, thankfully, doesnt end there. Dr. Flohr will be examining these results further, with a new study in the works. This late study is due to begin later this year and the question they will be seeking to answer is whether a device to lower water hardness in households will have any effect on the skin of babies. If a device is introduced into a household when a baby is born, will the risk of eczema developing be reduced? For those with babies or children suffering, this could be the news you have hoped for._文章大意Paragraph 1:Carsten Flohr博士和他的团队发表了一项关于水质和婴儿皮肤的关系的新研究。
