So what makes them so great? Dr Kimbro, author of the book What Makes the Great Great, believes that being great depends on a promise of making dreams e true. He writes in his book,“All high achievers make choices, not excuses. We all have a million excuses for the failure of something, but only some go on to achieve their goals in life. Here are some other important things that make great people great. If you wish to achieve greatness, you should be willing to work your butt off. As Margaret Thatcher puts it beautifully, I do not know anyone who has got to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but should get you pretty near. Practice and you shall get there. We learn things by practicing, be it walking, dancing, or even brushing our teeth. We do these things again and again until we bee good at them. Great people practice like theres no tomorrow. Your critics(批评者) do you the biggest favor. They fuel you to do better. Every great person has his or her critics, who think the worse about them and doubt their talent. “Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things,” Winston Churchill once said. All great people have one thing in mon. They all have been selfless in their services to others. That was their intention(意图) all along: to serve others and to help them overe difficulties. As Martin Luther King said, “Not everybody can be famous but. everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service. When the time es, be ready to lead. That is what separates(区分) the weak from the strong. Great people are not just about talking. They actually jump in when the need appears.1.What does the author want to show by mentioning Margaret Thatchers words?A.Hard work is very important.B.Not everyone can get to the top.C.We should have the right method.D.Almost everyone around her works hard.2.What does Winston Churchill think of criticism?A.Unavoidable.B.Important.C.Disappointing.D.Annoying.3.What does the author think separates the weak from the strong?A.Accepting criticism.B.Being critics to others.C.Holding on to promises.D.Leading the weak when needed.8、 Counterfeit(假的) medicines are a widespread problem in developing countries. Like other counterfeits, they look like real products. But counterfeit drugs may contain too little or none of the active ingredients of the real thing. People do not get the medicine they need. And in some cases, counterfeits cause death. Twenty children in Bangladesh died last year after being given acetaminophen(对乙酰氨基酚).The medications contained ingredients that looked, smelled and tasted like the real thing. The medicine was produced by a local drug pany that used a dangerous substitute to save money. The problem of counterfeit medicines is especially serious in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The WHO estimates that up to thirty percent of medicines on sale in many of those countries are counterfeit. The problem is less widespread among industrialized countries. The WHO says counterfeits make up less than one percent of the illegal drug market in countries like the United States, Canada, Japan and New Zealand. But the agency also says as much as fifty percent of the medicine sold on the Internet is counterfeit. Much is being done to fight counterfeit drugs. Several panies are developing ways to make counterfeits easier to identify. And there are existing methods, like a machine that can quickly identify chemicals in pills to confirm if the pills are real. Other ideas include things like special tracking codes for drug packages. People could send a text message with the code and get a message back, which proves that what they bought is listed in a database. Some drug makers and other panies put three-dimensional images called holograms(全息图)on their products as a security device.1.Last year twenty children in Bangladesh died because of _.A.unreal drugsB.online medicinesC.acetaminophenD.unclean water2.We can draw a conclusion from the passage that_ .A.it is very cheap and convenient to buy medicines online.B.we had better not buy medicines online.C.more and more people will buy products online.D.medicine panies dont pay much attention to counterfeit drugs.3.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?A.It reveals(揭露) the reasons why counterfeit drugs are widespread.B.Special tracking codes for drug packages are used to identify counterfeits.C.It shows the danger of counterfeit drugs.D.Some measures are being taken to fight counterfeit drugs.4.Which of the following country may have serious problems of counterfeit medicines?A.Canada.B.India.C.New Zealand.D.Japan.七选五9、根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。.Being angry doesnt really solve much, but what people do when they feel angry is important. The goal is to calm down and try to solve what is bothering you. This is hard for some kids and adults, too. Instead of calming down, some kids might keep getting more and more upset until they explode(爆发) like a volcano!.Their anger might be so strong that they lose control of their temper. They may act in ways unacceptable and hurtful. People may say that someone has trouble controlling their temper. Some kids might get so angry that they scream at their parents, break something, or even worse, hit their brothers or sisters. However, its not OK for a kid to do any of those things .Kids dont want to act in this way , but sometimes angry feelings can be hard to manage. So what to do? Well, the good news is that kids dont just have to keep making the same mistakes over and over again.Imagine your temper as a puppy(小狗) inside you that needs some training.
