Nuclear power plants(电厂) produce no controlled air pollutants, such as sulfur or greenhouse gases. The use of nuclear power in place of other energy sources helps to keep the air clean, preserve the earths climate, and prevent acid rain. However, there exist safety concerns if the plant is not operated correctly or unforeseen things happened when the plant was developed, as happened at the Fukishima(福岛) plant in Japan. It may cause damage to everything, including our health. Nuclear powers danger to health, safety, and even life itself can be summed up in one word: radiation.Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it, partly because it cannot be detected by human senses. It cant be seen or heard, or touched or tasted, even though it may be all around us. There are other things like that. For example, radio waves are all around us but we cant detect them, sense them, without a radio receiver. Similarly, we cant sense radioactivity without a radiation detector. But unlike mon radio waves, nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things. At very high levels, radiation can kill an animal or human being immediately by killing masses of cells in vital organs. But even the lowest levels can do serious damage. There is no levels of radiation that is pletely safe. If the radiation does not hit anything important, the damage may not be serious. This is the case when only a few cells are hit, and if they are killed immediately. Your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones. But if the few cells are only damaged, and if they reproduce themselves, you may be in trouble. They reproduce themselves in a deformed way. They can grow into cancer. Sometimes this does not show up for many years. This is another reason for some of the mystery about nuclear radiation. Serious damage can be done without the victim being aware at the time that damage has occurred. A person can be irradiated(辐射)and feel fine, then die for cancer five, ten, or twenty years later as a result. Or a child can be born weak as a result of radiation absorbed by its grandparents. Radiation can hurt us. We must know the truth.21.What can we infer from the passage?A. We cant detect radioactivity even with modern equipment.B. Only radiation at very high levels can kill an animal or human being.C. If a few cells are only damaged, healthy cells will take the place of dead ones.D. Radiation is harmful no matter what level it is.22.How can nuclear radiation kill an animal?A. By killing many cells in important organs.B. By killing a few cells.C. By hitting any place in its body.D. By damaging its heart.23.If a human being is hit by nuclear radiation, he may .A. die of cancer after many yearsB. die immediatelyC. have a child who may be born weakD. all of the above24.Whats the authors main purpose in writing this passage?A. Discussing the cause of cancer.B. Solving the mystery about radiation.C. Emphasizing the importance of protection from radiation.D. The famous line was, “Gentleman, failure is not an option.” He said the words because he had a clear purpose that the three astronauts trapped in space must be sent home safely. The driving force behind their seeking of a solution was motivated by a true purpose. Here is the simple principle. If you have a big enough why in life, you will always figure out the how. A person without a purpose in life is like a boat without a rudder, floating aimlessly without a direction and going nowhere. In all walks of life, when referring to someones success, we often hear the words “focus and determination”. But Merriam Webster defines the word “purpose” as the reason why something is done, a feeling of being determined to achieve an oute. There are many talented and intelligent people in the world that are unsuccessful because they lack direction. I believe that our life depends on our purpose. Whether youre single or in a team, having a purpose allows you to start, evaluate, and improve your talents or abilities helps you find your path in life and achieve your success finally.A friend of mine once told me that the most motivating speech he had ever heard was just three short words. It came from his wife when she said, “Honey Im pregnant.” He said those few words instantly motivated him because he now had a big “why” in his life, a purpose to work hard to support his family. In fact, when your “why” gets bigger, you get better because you stop holding back and youll go all out. Its why you often hear about some great people perform superhuman actions when failure is not an option!28.What does the underlined word “rudder” in paragraph 2 refer to?A. Something that gets the boat startedB. Something that makes the boat floatC. The reason for which the boat is builtD. Something that directs the boat to a certain place.29.What is the most important thing for success according to Merriam Webster?A. Talent B. PurposeC. Determination D. Intelligence30.The author gives his friends example to show_.A. why words can motivate people easilyB. that family love is very important in our daily lifeC. that a purpose can make people try their bestD. how people can get success more easily31.What does the author mainly tell us in this passage?A. To be successful person B. To have a big “Why” in lifeC. To make a right choice D. To get rid of failureDThe story of the movie Inside Out mostly takes place inside the mind of 11-year-old Riley as she moves from Minnesota to San Francisco. The main characters are Rileys emotions-Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Fear, which guide her decisions and often pete with one another for control of her brain.Fear is tall, thin, looks like a frayed(焦燥的)nerve and is purple. Not only that, his eyes are purple, too. Anger, which is red, looks like a brick and has red eyes. Disgust, who is green, has green eyes. Sadness, not surprisingly, is pletely blue, and even looks like a teardrop. But Joy, who is mainly yellow, has more than one color in her. She has blue eyes and blue hair. Why? Well, if blue represents sadness, then the message is clear: there is no such ting as “pure joy”. Instead, even in our most joyous times, there is often sadness mixed in.After all, one of the most joyous moments we can experience is a wedding, but it may end with the breaking of a glass. It reminds us that our world is still broken. In order words, even at our highest moments, there is always a little sadness. But the fort is that the reverse is often true. Think about how you feel after crying. When you cry, your body is releasing some chemicals that often make you feel good. And thats why you feel at ease after a good cry.Indeed, Inside Out reminds us that even the emotions that appear “negative have value. In other words, Inside Out shows us that the goal of life isnt “to be happy”. We will feel sad, angry or frightened. But we need our whole range of emotions for developing our sense of self and our relationship with others.32.According to the author, Joy is different in appearance because _.A. it is the leading character in our lifeB. that shows it is joyful for a reasonC. that shows it doesnt just mean pure joyD. the director wants to make it prettier33.Why does a wedding end with the braking of a glass?A.
