ATaylore is a kid who passes by to ride sometimes and help us with chores. Barely 15, shes never short of advice, and one of her favorite pastimes is teasing me about being afraid to go too fast on a horse.Last summer four of us rode down the trail behind our woods: my wife Karen, Taylore, Taylores friend Kendall and me. I was riding my 13-year-old, Tawny. We were two miles from home when, for some unexplainable reason,I pushed Tawny into a gallop(飞驰). The other horses were anxious to catch up, and just like that, the race was on.Taylore brushed past my left leg and, seconds later, Kendall went by on my right. I realized Tawny was covering ground faster than Id ever seen her. She strained every muscle in her body to catch up with the girls. It was like a truck winding over a mountain road without brakes (闸). Part of me felt perfectly in control, while another part screamed that I wasnt. In half a mile I knew wed be crossing the highway, so I prayed that the girls would be fine. I gave up calculating how long it might take before my horse would be tried enough to want to slow down.I was just about out of answers when I saw the girls slowing in front of me. Their horses were relaxed and fortable, not even breathing hard. Taylores face glowed. She gave me a high five. Wow, you did well, she said. I knew youd go fast when you were ready. No one in the group had even broken a sweat, except me. I was still nervous from the crazy pace. My heart pounded too, but not from exercise. Karen claims I was showing off for the girls that day, and maybe shes right. But I think I had something to prove. Because despite my wrinkles (皱纹), glasses and gray hair, I was feeling young at heart. And, like a horse on a warm summer day, Im always ready to kick up my heels.1. She needs to warm up situations, and is hesitant to try new things. When with close friends, she bees a leader who laughs loudly and chants. “Girls rule, boys drool.” But when that fort zone is not around her, she is shy and nervous. This has been challenging for me at times. “Shy” is not a word that I think has ever been used to describe me. But this has been year of firsts for my girl that has filled her with a new sense of confidence. This year she moved to lap lane in swimming where she was preparing for a swim team. This year she learned to ride a bike without training wheels. And this year she pleted her first kids triathlon(三项全能).On Saturday, with a thunderstorm ing soon and my sons birthday party later in the day, we all went out in the dark of the morning for Kelly to participate in her first triathlon. We practiced transitions from swim to bike to run with her, we got all the equipment shed need, and we kept talking about the race. But as we waited the two hours for the older kids to finish before her turn, she held my leg a little harder and told me she loved me a few too many times. She was nervous but trying to keep it together. And then it was her turn. From the second she jumped into the water, my heart soared. My daughter transformed into the most confident human being I had ever seen. She dominated that swim, crushed that bike ride and ran to the finish with the biggest smile on her face.I can honestly say that I never felt so proud of someone in my entire life. It wasnt because she did a sport or anything like that. It was because she was afraid of something and conquered that fear with confidence and a fire I hadnt seen before. All day I would find myself just looking over at her and smiling. Yet this is all too often seen.Older people, tired and irritable from a days work, are not angels, eitherfar from it.Many an argument or an insulting(侮辱的) quarrel breaks out as they feel tired of pushes in the queue and shove(猛推) each other to get on buses. If cities are to remain pleasant places to live in,however,it seems very necessary, not only that munications in transport should be improved, but also that munication between human beings should be kept smooth and polite.Shop assistants wont bother to help, taxidrivers shout at each other as they drive dangerously round corners, bus conductors pull the bell before their passengers have had time to get on or off the bus,and so on.It seems to us that it is up to the young and strong to do their small part to stop such deterioration(恶化)【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文。 1What can be inferred from the first paragraph?AA big strong schoolboy never pushes the elderly for a seat on a bus.BYoung persons are sure to offer seats to the elderly.COlder generation have better manners than the young.DElderly women are often treated politely.C解析:推断判断题。 2Whats the writers attitude towards the young mens argument about offering seat in public?ATolerant BDoubtful.CSupportive. DCritical.D解析:观点态度题。 Even if it is not agreed that courtesy should be shown to the old,the sick and the burdened, are we really so lost to all ideals of unselfishness that we can sit there indifferently reading a newspaper. 3What can we learn from the last paragraph but one?AOlder people behave worse than the young.BOlder people may also have unpleasant behaviors.COlder people dont like taking buses.DOlder people are good at argument and quarrel.B解析:细节理解题。 4Why does the author write this article?ATo tell us that manners nowadays in big cities are nonexistent.BTo scold the persons who have no manners at all.CTo warn us of the seriousness of young mens lacking good manners.DTo call on the young to improve the situation.D解析:写作意图题。 七选五(2017辽宁部分重点高中联考)Do you remember those times when your mother told you to avoid talking to strangers? Practice relaxing your body and deep breathing when you wake up and when you go to bed. 5 Plus, when stuff happens during the day, youll be able to calm yourself quickly with a deep breath or two before you react.Your body is changing.ATake a timeout.BBut the truth is,it happens to every teen.CWork out regularly to keep physically fit.DThis changing is needed for your bodys development.EIt will help you fall asleepand start the morning right.FHere are a few things you can do to make the ride smoother.GUsually, these feelings settle down when you realize what is going on.【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。 1B由空前的“confusing and even scary”和空后的“good”可知,空处在这里起承上启下的作用,所以选B项。 3F空前的“an emotional roller coaster”与F项中的“make the ride smoother”相对应,且由下文列举的几个要点可知,F项符合文意。 5E空前的“Practice relaxing your body and deep breathing”与E项中的“It”对应,空前的“when you wake up”与E项的“start the morning right”对应;空前的“when you go to bed”与E项的“fall asleep”对应。
