But what might not be apparent is that climbing to the top of a slide or swinging from the monkey bars can help lead your kids to a lifetime of being active. Watch for Changing Interests As time goes by, your child may lose interests in old favorites, such as soccer. The trick is to help your child continue to be active, even if league play fails halfway. Staying active and keeping fit are the goals, so help find other activities that your child enjoy. As they get older, it can be a challenge for kids to get enough daily activity. Reasons include increasing demands of school, a feeling among some kids that they arent good at sports, a lack of active role models, and busy working families. And even if kids have the time and the desire to be active, parents may not feel fortable letting them freely wander around the neighborhood as kids once did. So their opportunities might be limited. Despite these barriers, parents can install(逐步灌输) a love of activity and help kids fit it into their everyday routines. Doing so can establish healthy patterns that will last into adulthood. As I looked at the mother, I could sense her nervousnesslikely worried as to who would be sitting next to her daughter and what the reaction would be. Once I sat down, I could see why she was worried. The small child was handicapped and struggled to perform many of the functions the rest of us take for granted. Her eyes seemed to wonder, her arms would occasionally wave about, she was a beautiful little girl with a magical smile. And when I would look at her and smile, she would return the favor. After a while, she started grabbing my arm so as to hold it. Her mother would quickly ask her to stop and at first I acted like I dont notice. About the 4th time the little girl grabbed my arm with her small hand and the mother began to ask her to stop. I gave her a simple look of confidence and told her everything was OK, and that as a father of four little ones myself, it was nice to have someone the same age of my youngest, sitting next to me. The mother seemed relieved and for the rest of the 90-minute flight. I felt a little hand across my forearm, gratitude filled my heart as thoughts and reflections on my own life, health, and children flooded my mind.24. He had a brain tumor(肿瘤)that would kill him within a year. He knew he had a battle on his hands. At the terrible news he pletely broke down, because he thought he didnt have anything to leave behind for his wife, Lynne, who was soon to be a widow. Burgess had never been a professional(职业的) novelist in the past, but he always knew the potential(潜能) was inside him to be a writer. So, for the sole purpose of leaving royalties(版税) behind for his wife, he put a piece of paper into a typewriter and began writing. He had no certainty that his works would even be published, but he couldnt think of anything else to do. It was January of 1960, he said, and according to the prognosis(预测), I had a winter and spring and summer to live through, and would die with the fall of the leaf. During that time Burgess wrote energetically, finishing five and a half novels before the year was through. But Burgess did not die. His cancer had gone into remission and then disappeared altogether. In his long and full as a novelist (best known for A Clock-work Orange), he wrote more than 70 books, but without the death sentence from cancer, he may not have written at all. Many of us are like Anthony Burgess, hiding greatness inside, waiting for some external emergency to bring it out. Ask yourself what youd do if you had Anthony Burgesss original situation. However, it was not until 1974, following the chance discovery of the Army of Terracotta Warriors by well-digging farmers, that Xian was once again pushed onto the international map. Three decades later, the local government is pouring funds into the tourism sector. Ancient monuments and museums are being restored, and various copies of Buddhist and Tang heritage are being constructed to help Chinese tourists rediscover their national heritage. One of those ancient monuments is the Big Wild Goose Pagoda-Xians most sacred(神圣的)monument which was built in 652 by the monk Xuanzang, who travelled across India for 18 years and returned with a precious collection of Buddhist sacred texts. In 1966,the Red Guards burnt the pagodas scriptures, silk wall hangings and other relics in a bonfire that raged all night. But that destruction has largely been forgotten as tourists flock to the newly restored pagoda. The only original remainders-the empty shell of the seven-storey pagoda-light up at night, standing out in the citys skyline.Xian is also displaying the glories of the ancient Tang Dynasty, with a 165-acre Tang Paradise Theme Park that is visited by flocks of tourist groups. Although every bit of this Tang heritage is recreated, it is artistically pleasing, landscaped with ponds and lakes, classical gardens, bridges, palaces and pavilions. Explore the vast area on a golf cart, hopping on and off to see shortened operas from the Tang Dynasty days, laser shows on the lake, highly structured man-made waterfalls, as well as murals and statues of historical figures, philosophers and poets. A 36km drive northeast takes you to Xians most famous attraction, the Army of Terracotta Warriors. They were made to order in 221BC by the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huangdi, who used the forced labour of 700,000 subjects to create a mausoleum(陵庙) guarded by an entire army.32.FromthepassagewecanlearnthatalargesumofmoneyofthelocalgovernmentinXianis beingploughedinto_.A. restoring the monuments B. restoring the PagodaC. tourism industry D. exploring the history33.
