2019-2020年高考英语冲刺阅读完型写作自练14阅读理解Placed Insights,a dataservice provider, monitors the consumption behavior of more than 70,000 Americans at the age of 14 and older on a monthly basis. One half of Americans went to McDonalds at least once a month.Nearly four in ten Americans visited Walmart. The findings show that some panies visited by more than one in ten Americans each month are primarily fastfood, discountretail outlets(直销店) and health clinics. The types of businesses these panies are in and the traffic customers use to get to them play a big part in their success.According to Placed Insights, less than 40% of Americans visited a bank or clothing store in March. At the same time,an estimated 60% visited a department store, and more than twothirds went to a fastfood restaurant at least once.Placed Insights founder and CEO David Shim explains what it is that affects much on whether Americans visit a business once a year or once a week.“People often go out for fast food. They dont necessarily go shopping for a sweater every day,but they do eat.”It should e as no surprise that most of these panies have made efforts to expand their products, with varying degrees of success.Walmart, for example, has expanded its business to offer groceries, and even has fastfood restaurants in many stores.Starbucks has expanded its menu options to include breakfast sandwiches and other meals.McDonalds new McCafe coffee brand has been very successful. These are all new services designed to make more money on existing customers, bring in new customers, and bring them in more often. While the types of goods and services being offered by these panies are critical, the more critical factor is their dominant national presence. These panies have thousands of locations all over the country.Rare is the American town without a McDonalds,Burger King,Taco Bell,Subway,or some bination of the three.McDonalds has more than 14,000 locations in the US. in xx while Subway has more than 25,000.【解题导语】本文介绍了美国人经常去消费的一些商店以及为什么美国人经常去这些商店。1What do we learn from Placed Insightss research?AThe majority of people going to McDonalds are children.BMore people go to Walmart than to everyone who es in contact with them. Their valuesthis cant be repeated too oftenare not necessarily our values. Physical fort, cleanness and order are not necessarily the most important things. The social services from time to time find themselves faced with a flat with decaying food covered by small worms, and an old person lying alone in bed, taking no notice of the worms. But is it interfering(干涉) with personal freedom to insist that they go to live with some of their relatives so that they might be taken better care of? Some social workers, the ones who clear up the worms, think we are in danger of carrying this concept of personal freedom to the point where serious risks are being taken with the health and safety of the old.Indeed, the old can be easily hurt or harmed. The body is like a car, it needs more mechanical maintenance(机械维修,保养) as it gets older. You can carry this parison right through to the provision of spare parts. But never forget that such operations are painful experiences, however good the results will be. And at what point should you stop to treat the old body? Is it morally right to try to push off death by seeking the development of drugs to excite the forgetful old mind and to activate the old body, knowing that it is designed to die? You cant ask doctors or scientists to decide, because so long as they can see the technical opportunities, they will feel bound to give them a try, on the principle that while theres life, theres hope. When you talk to the old people, however, you are forced to the conclusion that whether age is happy or unpleasant depends less on money or on health than it does on your ability to have fun.5. What does the passage mainly tell us?A. The values are different between the old and the young.B. The moral problems raised by old people.C. The personal freedom for the old.D. Old peoples viewpoint on life.6. We can know from the first paragraph that_.A. Very old people would like to live alone to have more personal freedom.B. Very old people are able to keep their room clean.C. Very old people like to live with their children.D. Social services have nothing to do with very old people.7. According to the author, which of the following is right?A. The older a person, the more care he needs.B. Too much emphasis has been put on old peoples values.C. In this picture, we can see a man is cutting earth in a tunnel, hoping to find some diamonds. He works hard. However, after a long time of pains without gains, he gives up. With one or two more attempts of cutting, he would have seen those diamonds. This story tells us a very simple but important piece of truth: we should be confident in what we have chosen to do and never stop our efforts until we succeed. As a student, I should learn a lesson from the man. Just like the diamonds in the picture, success is just waiting for my last efforts. I have been cutting earth for so many years, so I will not give up until I succeed.
