2019-2020年高考英语阅读理解、书面表达四月自练(1)阅读理解 It is probably the strangest sport anyone has ever invented. And at first sight, it looks like the easiest. petitors have to do two things. The first is to stand still. The second is to place their hands anywhere on the body of a car, and keep it there. This is where things start getting difficult. Lots of people are doing the same thing. And the winner of the“handathon”contest is the person who can carry on doing it for the longest time. That person gets to own the car. It still seems to be an easy thing to do. At the beginning it is. Anyone can stand still. But when the contest has been going for four or five days, standing still seems like the most difficult job in the world. And keeping the hand in place over this time bees an act of serious attention. After a few days, the hand seems to belong to someone elsesomeone who wants to go home and get some sleep. petitors are allowed to take a five-minute break every hour to eat, drink or do whatever else is necessary. No one is allowed to lean on the car for support. Winners need to be able to show great powers of attention. They also need to be able to develop special skills. Maybe the popularity of the handathon is due to the fact that it is not necessary to be a trained athlete to enter. Entrants in the Longview handathon certainly dont seem to do much preparation. Most say they will prepare by“getting lots of sleep”. Others say they will“eat healthy food”or“pray for success”. The whole event gives ordinary people the chance to do something interesting and win something in the end. Handathons are petitions, but there is little rivalry(敌对)between petitors. They help each other out and keep each others spirits up. People who drop out early return with food, drink and encouragement. 【文章大意】双手放在车身任何部位, 静立不动, 你能坚持多久? 本文介绍了一项看似简单, 实则类似于马拉松的运动形式“handathon”。1. Brain-puter interface (BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send mands to machines.Recently, two researchers, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic school in Lausanne, Switzerland, demonstrated(展示)a small robotic wheelchair directed by a persons thoughts. In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand and. He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts.“Our brain has billions of nerve ceils. These send signals through the spinal cord(脊髓)to the muscles to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles,” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to municate with external world and also to control devices.”The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp(头皮) and sends them to a puter. The puter interprets the signals and mands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the puter react to mands from the brain. Prof. Millan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the puter software that interprets brain signals and turns them into simple mands. “The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two categories: munication, and controlling devices. One example is this wheelchair.”He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from. And the other is to guarantee that they can use the technology over long periods of time.16. BCI is a technology that can _.A. link the human brain with puters B. help to update puter systems C. help the disabled to recover D. control a persons thoughts 17. How did Tavella operate the wheelchair in the laboratory?A. By controlling his muscles. B. By talking to the machine. C. By moving his hand. D. By using his mind.18. Which of the following shows the path of the signals described in Paragraph 5?A. scalpputercapwheelchairB. putercapscalpwheelchairC. scalpcapputerwheelchairD. capputerscalpwheelchair19. The team will test with real patients to _. A. make profits from them B. prove the technology useful to themC. make them live longer D. learn about their physical condition20. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?A. Switzerland, the BCI Research CenterB. New Findings About How the Human Brain WorksC. BCI Could Mean More Freedom for the DisabledD.
