However, do British young people really have a problem in expressing themselves?A study published last October suggests that there is a real cause for concern: it showed that among the UKs 15-year-olds, only 22 percent of boys and28 percent of girls feel fortable using Standard English in formal situations, such as at school and in interviews. Some people think that British pupils leaving school are not as good at using languages as pupils from other countries, partlybecause they spend little time talking in class. There is some reason for being concerned about the levels of fluency and willingness to speak in public, even if“public”just means in front of the rest of the class. The government mittee is made up of people from the world of business, education, sports, the arts and the media. It will be chaired by the news announcer, Trevor McDonald. He is a widely respected and popular figure. 答案: 610.ABABB 1115.AACAA 1620. The effect of a conversation between a child and an adult is about six times as great as the effect of adult speech input alone, the researchers found. “Adults speaking to children helps language develop, but what matters much more is the interaction(互动交流), ”said the studys lead author, Frederick Zimmerman, an associate professor in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. The researchers also found that TV viewing didnt have much of an effectpositively or negativelyas long as it wasnt displacing(替换)conversations between an adult and a child. The UCLA study included 275 families with children between 2 months and 48 months old. They represented a variety of ines and education. The researchers found that, in an average day, children heard about 13, 000 spoken words from adults and participated in about 400 adult-child conversations a day. Assessed(评估)separately, factors positively associated(有关系)with language development including each additional 100 conversations a day and each 1, 000 words increase in the number of words spoken by adults and heard by children. When looked at alone, TV was negatively associated with language development. But, when the three factors were analyzed together, the only one that stood out was conversation between adults and children. “The more a child speaks and interacts with an adult, the better idea a parent has about where the child is, ”Zimmerman said. “Although its mostly done unconsciously, parents will provide feedback and correct mistakes. Theyll also tailor their speech to the child. Parents can give a child words by talking to them about what theyre doing, such as, Im putting on your pajamas now. But give your child the opportunity to talk, hopefully without the rest of the noise in the environment, ”she added. “If parents can carve out some conversation timemaybe at bath time or at dinner timethats a wonderful thing. ”【语篇概述】研究发现, 父母和孩子之间的交谈对孩子语言的发展至关重要。这种交谈必须是双向的、互动的。21. In West Africa as well as Greece, Italy and Middle East, the thumbs-up is pretty much the biggest insult(侮辱). Rather more charming is a thumbs-up in Germany and in parts of Japanthey just see it as the hand signal for the number one. The“A-OK”This sign is mainly used by divers(潜水员)to mean“OK”(to prevent being confused with the thumbs-up sign, which means“rise”). Basically the meaning es out as“great”, or“pletely fine”. However, in a few countries in Europe, people may think youre telling them that you think theyre a“zero”. The“V Sign”The sign es in two formats(形式): one with the palm faced outwards, and one with the palm inwards. In America they mean the same thing“victory”. However, if the outside of your hand is facing your target, youre giving somebody a long established insult in Great Britain and many English-speaking countries such as Australia, Ireland and New Zealand. Winston Churchill(丘吉尔)famously used the“incorrect”version of the V sign during the early years of the war, turning the outside inside later. The V sign is also considered rude in Italy. The“Corna”The corna hand gesture has most recently been accepted by fans of rock and heavy metal music. Nowadays many Americans use the gesture simply to mean“rock on”or in support of the University of Texas in Austin(known as the“Hookem Horns”). Today it is still popular in Spain, Brazil and Slovakia(斯洛伐克). Historically, however, the symbol possibly dates back to Ancient Greece. 【语篇概述】本文介绍了四个广为人知的手势语的含义及使用情况。25.
