sorry8.Thank you for inviting us.We had a very good time today._.A.No,thank youB.Im afraid notC.You shouldnt say thatD.It was my pleasure答案:提示:在英语国家,别人为自己提供了帮助,说声“谢谢”,是起码的礼节。“Thank you”几乎用于一切场合、一切人之间,即使夫妻之间、父母子女之间也不例外。甚至一些我们认为理所当然的事,也得道声“谢谢”。“Thank you”“Thanks”“Thank a lot”这些简单的致谢用语在口语中恐怕用得最多。 The dinner was delicious.Thank you for your invitation.(饭菜真可口,谢谢你的邀请。) Thank you.I really appreciate your giving me the time.(我确实感谢您为我花了这么多时间。) Im sorry to have troubled you.(对不起,打扰你了。) I like to be troubled.(我喜欢被打扰。) My English is very poor, especially the pronunciation and intonation.(我的英语太差了,特别是语音和语调。);No,my coat doesnt fit me well.(不,我的衣服一点儿也不合身。);Im very shamed.(不好意思。)等,而应该说:“Thank you”“Im glad you like it”之类的话。 在这种场合下,一般说:“Thank you all the same.”“Thank you anyway.” Thats OK./You are wele./Dont mention it./No problem./Sure./Its my pleasure./Not at all.1.B2.B3.D4.C5.B6.D7.C8.D综合应用.选择填空1.(xx安徽高考)Helen _go on the trip with us but she isnt quite sure yet.A.shallB.mustC.mayD.can答案:C从转折词but的提示和she isnt quite sure yet可以看出所用的情态动词表示的可能性不大。 2.(xx广东高考)Ive taken someone elses green sweater by mistake.It_ Harrys. He always wears green.A.had to beB.will beC.mustnt beD.could be 3. _we cant get seems better than_ we have.A.What;whatB.What;thatC.That;thatD.That;what答案:A本题题意“我们得不到的东西似乎比已经拥有的东西好”,what引导主语从句,并在从句中充当宾语。4.One can _BBC_ the air early with his short-wave radio.A.pick up;onB.pick out;overC.pick up;throughD.pick at;by答案:Apick up意为“捡起;接收;搭乘;接某人上车”,pick out意为“挑出;捡出”,pick at意为“一点一点地吃”,on the air=over the radio=on the radio。5.Let us _out for_,_?A.to go;a drive;shall youB.go;drive;shall youC.go;a drive;will youD.to go;drive;will you答案:Clet sb.do sth.为固定结构,并且let us的反意疑问句为will you? go out for a drive是固定短语,意为“驱车或乘车旅行”。.用方框里的词组的正确形式填空take Valentine broke the rule and secretly married a great many young people. Finally,Claudius found out about Valentine and put the priest in prison, where he remained until his death on February 14.After his death,Valentine was made a saint(圣人),and the day of his death was named Saint Valentines Day.It became the custom for lovers to send each other message on this day.Now Saint Valentines Day is a and Fathers DayPeople in the United States honor their parents with two special days:Mothers Day,on the second Sunday in May,and Fathers Day,on the third Sunday in June.Mothers Day was proclaimed a day national observance by President Woodrow Wilson in 1915.Ann Jarvis from Grafton,West Virginia, had started the idea to have a day to honor mothers. She was the one who chose the second Sunday in May and also began the custom of wearing a carnation. In 1909,Mrs.Dodd from Spokane,Washington, thought of the idea of a day to honor fathers. She wanted to honor her own father,William Smart. After her mother died,he had the responsibility of raising a family of five sons and a daughter. In 1910,the first Fathers Day was observed in Spokane.Senator Margaret Chase Smith helped to establish Fathers Day as a national memorative day,in 1972.These days are set aside to show love and respect for parents. They raise their children and educate them to be responsible citizens. They give love and care. These two special days are celebrated in many different ways.On Mothers Day people wear carnations.A red one symbolizes a living mother.A white one shows that the mother is dead. Many people attend religious services to honor parents. It is also a day when people whose parents are dead visit the cemetery. On these days families get together at home,as well as in restaurants. These are days of fun and good feelings and memories.Another tradition is to give cards and gifts.Children make them in school. Many people make their own presents. These are more valued than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is “the thought that counts”.Greeting card stores, florists, candy makers, bakeries, telephone panies, and other stores do a lot of business during these holiday.【个性思考】 What do you think is the better way to celebrate the fathers day or mothers day?In my view, Thursday in November almost every culture in the world has held celebrations of thanks for a plentiful harvest. The American Thanksgiving holiday began as a feast of thanksgiving in the early days of the American colonies almost four hundred years ago.In 1620,a boat filled with more than one hundred people sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the New World(新大陆).This religious group had begun to question the beliefs of the Church of England and they wanted to separate from it.The Pilgrims settled in what is now the state of Massachusetts.Their first winter in the New World was difficult. They had arrived too late to grow many crops, and without fresh food, half the colony died from disease. The following spring the Iroquois Indians(美国纽约州东北部易洛魁族印第安人)taught them how to grow corn,a new food for the colonists. They showed them other crops to grow in the unfamiliar soil and how to hunt and fish.In the autumn of 1621,bountiful crops of corn, barley(大麦),beans and pumpkins were harvested. The colonists had much to be thankful for,so a feast was planned. They invited the local Indian chief and 90 Indians. The Indians brought deer to roast with the turkeys and other wild game offered by the colonists. The colonists had learned how to cook cranberries and different kinds of corn and squash dishes from the Indians. To this first Thanksgiving, the Indians had even brought popcorn. In following years, many of the original colonists celebrated the autumn harvest with a feast of thanks. After the United States became an independent country,Congress remended one yearly day of thanksgiving for the whole nation to celebrate.George Washington suggested the date November 26 as Thanksgiving Day.Then in 1863,at the end of a long and bloody civil war,Abraham Lincoln asked all Americans to set aside the last Thursday in November as a day of thanksgiving.Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November,a different date every year. The President must proclaim that date as the official celebration.Thanksgiving is a time for tradition and sharing.Even if they live far away, family members gather for a reunion at the house of an older relative. All give thanks together for the good things that they have.In this spirit of sharing, civic groups and charitable organizations offer a traditional meal to those in need, particularly the homeless. On most tables throughout the United States, foods eaten at the first thanksgiving have bee traditional.【个性思考】What do you think of Thanksgiving Day?In my view, _
