2019-2020年高考英语考前复习大串讲专题1.2阅读理解感悟高考Passage 1(xx新课标D)A new collection of photos brings an unsuccessful Antarctic voyage back to life.Frank Hurleys pictures would be outstanding-undoubtedly first-rate photo-journalism-if they had been made last week. In fact, they were shot from 1914 through 1916, most of them after a disastrous shipwreck(海滩), by a cameraman who had no reasonable expectation of survival. Many of the images were stored in an ice chest, under freezing water, in the damaged wooden ship. The ship was the Endurance, a small, tight, Norwegian-built three-master that was intended to take Sir Ernest Shackleton and a small crew of seamen and scientists, 27 men in all, to the southernmost shore of Antarcticas Weddell Sea. From that point Shackleton wanted to force a passage by dog sled(雪橇) across the continent. The journey was intended to achieve more than what Captain Robert Falcon Scott had done. Captain Scott had reached the South Pole early in 1912 but had died with his four panions on the march back. As writer Caroline Alexander makes clear in her forceful and well-researched story The Endurance, adventuring was even then a thoroughly mercial effort. Scotts last journey, pleted as be lay in a tent dying of cold and hunger, caught the worlds imagination, and a film made in his honor drew crowds. Shackleton, a onetime British merchant-navy officer who had got to within 100 miles of the South Pole in 1908, started a business before his 1914 voyage to make money from movie and still photography. Frank Hurley, a confident and gifted Australian photographer who knew the Antarctic, was hired to make the images, most of which have never before been published.33. But when I arrived at the check-in desk at Providence, the lady on the desk said:”Well, Im really sorry, Ive got some bad news for you-there are no fights from Washington.”So I took my box and put it on the desk and I said:”In this box are some stem cells that are urgently needed for a patient-please, please, youve got to get me back to the United Kingdom.”She just dropped everything. For breakfast? But the truth is that you can have last nights leftovers in the a. m. if you want to.I know lots of women who skip breakfast(不吃早餐), and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it. Some say they dont have time, others think theyre saving calories (卡路里) , still others just dont like breakfast food. But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when youre trying to lose weight. “Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all,” says Katherine Brooking, R. D. , who developed the super-easy eating plan for this years “SELF CHALLENGE”. And even pizza can be healthy if its loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece.Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southern California found that breakfast skippers have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who regularly have a morning meal.So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast altogether, and have just coffee or orange juice. I say,try heating up last nights leftoversit may sound crazy, but if it works for you, do it! I find if I tell myself,“You can always eat it tomorrow, ”I put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it.you may save yourself some pre-bed-time calories.
