They will not believe that it is_20_until one of the animals has been caught.1A.fact BmatterCtruth Dthing答案:A阅读全文可知,空格后的“a large animal may live in central China”叙述的是一个可能存在的事实,故此空应填fact,为连词that所引导的同位语从句所修饰的先行词。2A.prove BdiscoverCprotect Dcheck答案:A后面一句中的“a new discovery of the mysterious animal in Hubei Province”,为证明a large hairy animal的存在提供了证据,故此空应填prove。 4A.travelers BengineersCscientists Dexplorers答案:B下文中的“the engineers immediately stopped and ran after them.” 6A.frightened BamazedCupset Dinspired答案:B后边一句中“Three all animals, covered with long dark hair”,是在国家森林公园里度假的工程师们从来没有看到过的动物,所以对这种神秘动物的突然出现感到吃惊。 8A.shot at Blooked atCfought with Dran after答案:D下文中“they did not dare to follow any further.” 9A.However BIndeedCMeanwhile DAnyway答案:A前句叙述了“On seeing the animals, the engineers immediately stopped and ran after them”空格后的句子表示的是转折意义,且后又有逗号隔开,由此可判断出此空应填表示转折意义的副词however,在句中作插入语。10A.difficulty BspeedCcare Dpleasure答案:Bwith great speed“以极快的速度”。speed前用great修饰,前边用介词with; speed前用high修饰,前边用介词at。11A.search BfollowCfind Dlook for答案:B前文已经叙述了“On seeing the animals, the engineers immediately stopped and ran after them.” 12A.bullets BtoolsCmedicines Dphotographs答案:Dtake photographs意为“照相”,是固定的动词短语,由下文“scientists feel they can depend on what they described”可以推断出,工程师们并没有给所见到的神秘动物拍照。 14A.depend on Bdeal withCwrite down Dpass on答案:A四个选项的动词短语所表示的意思不同:depend on“依靠;指望”;deal with“对付;处理”;write down“写下来”;pass on“传递;转达”。 A。 16A.cut BpulledCcollected Dtore答案:C下文“Chinese scientists have now set up a special group to exchange information”表明,这里指“采集”动物的毛发以供研究,故填collected。17A.foot BlegCbody Dhead答案:A四个选项均为表示人体和人体部位的名词,但根据上文“scientists returned to the forest and collected some hair and measured footprints”可以确定,该句说的20英寸是指动物足的长度。18A.film BtourCchoice Dstudy答案:D四个选项的名词填入空格和make相搭配,构成不同意义的动词短语:make a film“拍电影”;make a tour“周游”;make a choice“选择”;make a study“研究”。 Chinese scientists have now set up a special group这一事实,再根据作目的状语的前一个不定式to exchange information可判断出,此空应填study,说明“a special group”的职能是用来交换信心和研究森林的。 再根据短文最后一句“They will not believe that it is real until one of the animals has been caught.” Have you ever sat on a camel? Well, if you have, then you know how scary it is when the camel rises on its long wobbly(摆动的)legs. The rocking motion of a camel is a bit like a being tossed around in heaving seas. Small wonder then that the camel is often called the ship of the desert. Actually, the name owes its origins to the fact that camels were brought from the desert, to serve as beasts of burden in other countries. We in India are only familiar with one species of camel, known as the Dromedary camel. This animal is singlehumped, has long legs and is found in the deserts of Asia and Africa. Another specie(the twohumped shortedlegged Bactrian camel)is found in parts of China and Central Asia.Recently, scientists discovered what they think is a new species of wild camel that lives in a remote part of China. These mammals look very similar to the Bactrian camel but they have a unique featurethey survive by drinking salty water.Strangely enough, scientists knew about the existence of the animal, but had no idea of their unique identity(特性). As a result, researchers now admit that these animals are not Bactrian camels as initially(最初)thought, but a new species. The only visible physical difference is that the saltwater drinking species has its humps further apart than the Bactrian camel.Camels are most common in the African and Asian deserts, but fossil evidence shows that camels originated in North America about 45 million years ago. So how did they manage to come into Africa? Well, million of years ago, North America and Asia were connected by a land massthe presentday Bering Strait.Scientists think that the camels migrated into South America and across to Asia, disappearing almost entirely from the land of its origin. However, many researchers say that the South American llama(骆驼)is a direct descendent of the camel.1The camel is called“the ship of the desert”because_.Awhen you are on a camel, you feel like being on a ship at seaBits long legs swung when it is traveling in the desertCcamels came from the desert and are used in other countriesDcamels can travel in the desert of many days without eating答案:C根据文章第一段中的“这个名字起源于这样的事实:骆驼从沙漠被带到其他国家作为驼重的动物”判断。2Whats the difference between the Dromedary camel and the Bactrian camel?AThe Dromedary camel has two humps.BThe Bactrian camel has long legs.CThe Dromedary camel is only found in Asia.DThe Dromedary camel has only one hump.答案:D根据第二段第二句“This animal is singlehumped, has long legs.” 3What scientists dont know about the new species is_.Atheir existence in ChinaBtheir ability to survive on salty waterCtheir similarity to the Bactrian waterDhow they survive in the remote part of China答案:B根据第四段中“.but had no idea of their unique identity”看,此处的unique identity就是they survive by drinking salty water。4How can people tell the new species from the the Bactrian camel?ABy looking at the length of their legs.BBy counting the number of humps.CBy looking at the distance of the two humps.DBy examining the kind of the two humps. 5From the passage we can infer that_.AVery few camels exist in North America at presentBCamels warm across the Bering Strait to AsiaCCamels first originated from the African desertsDCamels are the most endangered animals in the world答案:A根据第五段中“.camels originated in North America about 45 million years ago”和第六段中“.disappearing almost entirely from the land of its origin.” Dear Peter,I am writing to ask whether you are able to do me a favor._Best regards,Li Hua参考范文:Dear Peter,I am writing to ask whether you are able to do me a favor.I want to have a pen friend, hopefully a girl in her early twenties, and with an interests similar to mine.
