Telephone DepartmentI. Upon receiving the information of power failure, the telephone operator will immediately notify the following personnel by telephone or by paging system:- Regional Director of Engineering / Assistant Chief Engineer Security Manager / Assistant Security Manager Duty Assistant Manager General Manager Manager Executive Housekeeper MIS Manager Area Controller - HK Executive Assistant Manager - F & B Front Office ManagerI. The Telephone Operator should have a list of telephone numbers readily available in the operators room for any emergency action required.II. Contact Engineering Department to ascertain the reason and duration of the power failure.2. Engineering DepartmentI. Locate the source and nature of the power failure.II. Take immediate actions to determine cause and correction III. If fault is due to failure in public power supply network:-a) Call Hong Kong Electric Company to determine what the problem is and when the service will be resumed.b) Isolate all sub-circuits.c) Standby at main switch room, when the power is back, switch on sub-circuits one by one to avoid over current due to starting motors simultaneously.Date: 30.11.1998Supersedes issue of:15.03.1994Issued by: Billy FongApproved by: Mr Philippe CarettiPage: 2/6Operating PoliciesSubject:Power Failure ProceduresDepartment: SecuritySection: 132. Engineering Department (contd) IV. If it is a fault in the hotel:-a) Isolate the faulty circuit.b) Restore healthy circuit.c) Repair the fault and perform MEGA test.d) Do not reset any switch until fault is located.e) Restore all circuits one by one to avoid over current.f) Connect temporary power to essential circuits if affected.V. Inform Telephone Department the expected duration of power failure.VI. Ensure no persons are trapped in any of the elevators.VII. Ensure the emergency generator is functioning to the necessary capacity and make arrangements for fuel replenishing.VIII. Ensure the firemans lift is used for emergencies only.IX. Check and ensure proper functioning of all equipment having their own battery or UPS system.X. Station one Engineering staff in the stand-by generator room to ensure the generator performs properly.3. Security DepartmentI. Assign a Security Officer to standby at the main lobby.II. Assign a Security Officer to standby at L5.III. Arrange Security Officer to make frequent tours of the Hotel throughout the power failure.IV. Housekeeping DepartmentI. Station Housekeeping staff in various posts in the public areas, guest floors, back-of-house as well as offices and be prepared to offer assistance to the guests and employees as required.II. Station one staff in the Housekeeping Office to answer guests calls.III. Advise guests to remain in the rooms.IV. Direct guests to the exit staircase as requested.V. Distribute flash lights to Floor Supervisors to distribute to guest rooms upon requested.VI. Open vacant rooms to allow natural light in.VII. Be aware of strangers wandering on the floor.VIII. Do not use any candles.5. Front Office Department / Duty Assistant ManagerI. Check if there are any disabled guests or staff in the Hotel requiring special assistance, if do priorities to give them assistance.II. Assist Engineering to check all elevators to confirm that all guests are evacuated from the elevators.III. If evacuation of guests is required, assist with the handling of luggage.6. Food and Beverage DepartmentI. Determine the extent of food and beverage services that can be continued during power failure.II. Ensure food is properly stored.III. Food and Beverage Department (contd)IV. Standby all exits of outlets to ensure no-one evades paying their bills.V. Review room service operation, stop if necessary.VI. If Banquet function is still in progress, use of candles is discouraged but if absolutely necessary should be used in the area protected by the automatic fire sprinkler system.VII. Restaurant Cashiers to ensure all cash drawers are secure.IN THE EVENT OF A MAJOR POWER FAILURE OCCURRING, THE FOLLOWING DEPARTMENTAL PROCEDURES WILL APPLY:-Telephone Department On discovering the power failure, the Telephone Department will contact all key staff and in priority the Regional Director of Engineering and the Security Manager. Try to ascertain the possible reason and duration of the power failure.Engineering Department Try to locate the source of the power failure and expected duration of power outage. Take immediate action to determine the cause and corrective action required. Ensure the firemans lifts are being used for emergencies only. Ensure as much as possible, essential services are maintained.Security Department Immediately ensure no one is trapped in the elevators. Close the shutters on the 4th floor Loading Bay. Floor Supervisor and staff to standby to assist guests as required and direct guests to fire exit staircases.Food and Beverage Department Restaurant Cashiers to secure all cash drawers.
