What can happen to furniture when a house is destroyed by tornado?(1) happen 发生 e.g.The accident happened on Tuesday morning.这场事故发生在周二早晨。 happen to e.g.A funny thing happened to me on my way home last night.昨天晚上我回家的路上发生了一件有趣的事情。 happen to do sth.e.g.I happened to be out when he called.他来访时我刚好出去了。It happened to be raining when I arrived in London.我到达伦敦时,碰巧在下雨。 在It (so) happened that句型中,that引导的从句时真正的主语。同时,此种复合句可以和简单句互换。e.g. It (so) happened that I had no money with me.=I happened to have no money with me.我碰巧身上没带钱。(2)furniture 为不可数名词,表示一件家具要说 a piece of furniture(3)destroy v. (destroyed, destroyed) 破坏;粉碎 destruction n.毁坏区别:destroy,damage,harm,hurt,injure与wound Destroy毁灭,消灭,指通过某种有力的或粗暴的手段使之毁灭或无用,一般不能或很难修复,有时可用于比喻意义。 Damage伤害,损害,主要指对价值和功能的破坏,多用于无生命的东西,一般可修复。 harm伤害,损害,主要用于有生命的东西。常指伤及一个人或其健康、权利、事业等。 hurt指精神上或肉体上的“创伤、伤害”。做不及物动词意思是“疼”,其过去分词不能做定语。 injure指意外伤害事故造成的伤害,有危及功能发展之意。 wound一般指刀伤、枪伤等战场上受的伤,也可指对感情的伤害,后跟宾语指整个人而不是受伤的部位。2. pick up(1) 拾起,拿起,卷起,掀起e.g. She picked up a wallet.(2) 整理e.g. Mike has made some effort to pick up the apartment.迈克卖力整理房间。(3) 开车接某人e.g. My husband will pick you up in the car.我丈夫开车区接你。(4) 无意中学会e.g. I just pick up Greek when I lived in Greece.我在希腊居住时学会了希腊语。(5) 收到广播、电视节目e.g. I managed to pick up an American news broadcast.我设法接收到了美国新闻广播。3.take off(1)脱掉,去掉,卸妆e.g. I forgot to take off my make-up last night.昨天晚上我忘记卸妆了。(2)起飞(3)歇班e.g. Im taking Thursday off to do some Christmas shopping.我周四歇班为圣诞节购物。4.on average=on an/the average平均e.g. How many classes do you have every day on average?你平均每天上几节课?Step3 Ask the students to read the reading aloud.Step4 Homework1.
