As one scientist points out.“There are slight genetic differences between the sexes at birth which may affect the subjects boys and girls choose.”But the difficulty is that by the time children reach school age, there are so many other affects that it is almost impossible to tell whether girls are worse at science and maths, or whether theyve been brought up to think of these subjects as boys “territory”Statistics show that in mathematics, at least, girls are equal to boys. A recent report suggests girls only stop studying mathematics because of social attitudes. One of the reports says,“While it is still acceptable for women to say that they are hopelessat maths, our research shows that, although girls get marks which are as good as the boys, they have not been encouraged to do so.”The explanation for the difference, which is very clear during the teenage years, goes as far back as early childhood experiences. From their first days in nursery school, girls are not encouraged to work on their own or to complete tasks, although boys are. For example, boys but not girls are often asked to“help”with repair work. This encouragement leads to a way of learning how to solve problems later in the life. Evidence shows that exceptional(杰出的)mathem- aticians and scientists did not have teachers who supplied answers; they had to find out by themselves.A further report on maths teaching shows that teachers seem to give more attention to boys than to girls. Most teachers who took part in the study admitted that they expect their male students to do better at mathematics and science subjects than their female students. All of this tends to encourage boys to work harder in these subjects, gives them confidence and makes them believe that they can succeed.Interestingly, both boys and girls tend to regard such “male” subjects like mathematics and science as difficult. Yet it has been suggested that girls avoid mathematics courses, not because they are difficult, but for social reasons.Mathematics and science are mainly male sujects, and therefore, as girls become teenagers, they are less likely to take them up. Girls do not seem to want to be in open competition with boys. Neither do they want to do better than boys, because they are afraid to appear less female, and so less attractive.1What has been discovered about boys and girls in their learning and choosing subjects at school?(No more than 20 words)_2Please explain the underlined word“territory”in English.(No more than 5 words)_3Why do girls stop learning mathematics based on the passage?(No more than 15 words)_4What makes those who made extraordinary contribution in mathematics and science different?(No more than 15 words)_5What conclusion can be drawn according to the scientific studies?(No more than 20 words)_答案:1Therere not only slight genetic differences between boys and girls but other factors affecting their learning and subject choices.2special field/special area of knowledge or activity3Because of social attitudes to them4the ability to solve problems by themselves5Girls can learn science subjects and maths as well as boys if given enough encouragement.任务型读写阅读下列短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。Traditionally, customers may consider more about what they buy the product for. However, the image of product and the consuming circumstance have become the key points to attract customer awareness and stimulate their buying needs. Frequently, customers buy goods just because they are cute, lovely and unique. With a less emphasis on functional utilities, the experience and imaginative space are placed into an increasingly important role. The image of product is emphasized, as well as the communication between products and consumers. “Customer behavior, which appears to be focused and directed at the object and at pleasure, in fact responds to quite different objectives: displaced expression of desire, and the production of a code of social values through the use of differential signs”(Baudrillard) . The reason for imageoriented customer behavior is probably that customers lifestyle has been continuously virtualized by paying much attention to “Virtual Reality”. The evidences can be traced from computer games and Hollywood movies, in which customers preference for fleeing reality is perfectly matched. This change requires us to take efforts to enhance product image by integrating style, color, taste, shape and material, and communicate with customers creatively, imaginatively and innovatively, and enable them to enjoy the distinctive experience image brings. “ Need is not a need for a particular object as much as it is a need for difference”( Baudrillard). The typical example is Apple Computers IMAC, which has strong visual impact and outstanding dynamics. By this way, customer relationship can be set up through image, and brand can be treated as living that can transform people. Other examples commonly used are Disney Fairyland and Las Vegas, where new experience and imagination are fully demonstrated. In sum, consumption is negotiation, a neverending conversation held in the languages of advertising, packaging, branding, fashion, and entertainment. It is well known for its multicultural cuisine(菜肴) and its colonial architecture and is considered by most experts to be the birthplace of jazz, the one music style that the USA can lay claim to inventing.2_The city was founded in 1718, at a time when France owned that part of North America. Part of its diversity results from the fact that it was subjected to many different influences. France sold Louisiana to Spain in1763, got it back 40 years later, and almost immediately sold the territory to the USA.3_As the city prospered(繁荣), it became a magnet(磁铁)for all kinds of immigrants from Europe and other parts of the USA, and was also the first choice destination of breed black slaves. The rich cultural mix led to a relaxed attitude to life and an appreciation of good food, wine, music and dancing. There were frequent festivals.4_By the end of the 1700s, people of African descent(祖先) made up more than half the citys population. Many more arrived via the Caribbean and brought with them West Indian cultural traditions. By the mid18th century, black New Orleans people were gathering socially on Sundays at a special market outside the city, where they were able to remember and practice their traditional African dance and drumming music. The roots of jazz can be traced to these events.5_Native American musicians then combined their music with the African traditions and bands playing a mixture of styles began to perform in street festivals. Europeans came to listen and contribute and the roots of jazz were established. Louis Armstrong, the most famous jazz musician of all time, was influenced by these rich musical mixtures when he heard them in the early years of the 20th century.答案:15CABFD111
