111课时作业(二十六)选修6Unit 1Art限时:30分钟 .完形填空When I first entered university, my aunt, who is an English professor, gave me a new English dictionary. I was _1_ to see that it was an EnglishEnglish dictionary, also known as a monolingual(单语的) dictionary. _2_ it was a dictionary intended for nonnative learners, none of my classmates had one and, to be honest, I found it extremely _3_ to use at first. I would look up words in the dictionary and still not fully understand the meaning. I was used to the _4_ bilingual(双语的)dictionaries, in which the words are _5_ both in English and Chinese. I really wondered why my aunt _6_ to make things so difficult for me. Now, after studying English at university for three years, I _7_ that monolingual dictionaries are _8_ in learning a foreign language. As I found out, there is in fact often no perfect equivalence(对应) between two _9_ in two language. My aunt even goes so far as to _10_ that a Chinese “equivalent” can never give you the _11_ meaning of a word in English! Therefore, she insisted that I read the definition(定义) of a word in a monolingual dictionary when I wanted to get a better understanding of its meaning. _12_, I have come to see what she meant.Using a monolingual dictionary for learners has helped me in another important way. This dictionary uses a(n) _13_ number of words, around 2, 000, in its definitions. When I read these definitions, I am _14_ exposed to the basic words and learn how they are used to explain objects and ideas. _15_ this, I can express myself more easily in English.1A.worried Bsad Csurprised Dnervous2A.Because BAlthough CUnless DIf3A.difficult BinterestingCambiguous Dpractical4A.new Bfamiliar Cearlier Dordinary5A.explained BexpressedCdescribed Dcreated6A.offered Bagreed Cdecided Dhappened7A.imagine BrecommendCpredict Dunderstand8A.natural BbetterCeasier Dconvenient9A.words Bnames Cideas Dcharacters10A.hope Bdeclare Cdoubt Dtell11A.exact BbasicCtranslated Dexpected12A.Largely BGenerallyCGradually DProbably13A.extra Baverage Ctotal Dlimited14A.repeatedly BnearlyCimmediately Danxiously15A.According to BIn relation toCIn addition to DBecause of.阅读理解ATaylor Bernard and her twin sister were born 12 weeks early. Its changed her whole life.可推断出她的母亲看到别人对女儿的看法的改变,应该会高兴的,故选D项。17C细节理解题。由倒数第二段最后一句Now shes more focused on school可知在发现绘画的才能后,她能够更集中精力学习,学习也一定有提高,故选C项。 You can see more of Amandas artwork at amandalamunyon.com. 111
