To enable Ss to use predicative clauses and subject clauses freely.Learning Procedures:Step 1. Revision Ask Ss to try to translate the following sentences.(1) 令我感到高兴的是,当我多年以后回顾大学校园生活时,我仍能够回想起和你一起接受学生会训练的日子。 (2) 当歌星出现时观众欢呼起来。 Suggested Answers:(1) Im pleased that years from now, when I look back at my life on campus, I can still think about/of the days when we received training in the student council. (2)The crowd cheered when the pop singer appeared.Step 2. Grammar (1)Predicative clauses1. Ask Ss to take a look at these sentences and then give them some explanation about predicative clauses.(1) The prom was very attractive.(2) The boy standing over there is my classmate.(3) My belief is that hes got a health problem.(4) The problem is how we do it.Explanation: 定义:表语位于系动词之后,表语从句是用作表语的句子,用来对主语进行解释、说明。 结构:表语从句常用结构是主语+系动词+表从。常见的连系动词有:be, look, remain, become, turn, get, go, seem, feel, smell, taste等。 引导词:常见的引导表语从句的词有:that(不可省略) , whether, what, who, which, when, where, how, why, as, as if , as though.(但不能用 if) 当主语为idea, advice, order, suggestion, demand, request等时,谓语常用(should) + 动词原形。 用陈述句语序。2. Ask Ss to tell which sentences are predicative clauses.(1) We dont know where to go.(2) Im not sure where to go.(3) My opinion is that you should read more articles.(4) I am not the man I used to be.(5) Thats how we make it.(6) The world is becoming what we want it to be.(7) The factory is located on the place where we used to go.Suggested Answers:Sentence 3, 5, 6 are predicative clauses.3. Let Ss complete the predicative clauses.(1) 事实是他们有着不同的观点。The fact is _.(2) 问题是她明天是否会来。The question is _.(3) 那就是他们如此忽忙离开的原因。Thats _.(4) 问题是我们应该去哪里。The problem is _.(5) 互相理解就是他们所在寻找的。Mutual understanding is _.(6) 问题是我们怎么样才能与他取得联系。The question is _.(7) 看起来好像就快要下雨了。It looks / seems _.(8) 事情看起来并不是他们所看到的那样。Things were not _.(9) 我建议我们举行一些有奖竞赛。My suggestion / idea is _.Suggested Answers:(1) that they have different opinions (that在句中不做成分,不省略。)(2) whether she will be back tomorrow (if不能引导表语从句)(3) why they left in such a hurry(4) where we should go(5) what they are looking for(6) how we can get in touch with him(7) as if it is going to rain(8) as they seemed to be.(9) That we (should) have some competitions with prizes. (当主语为idea, advice, order, suggestion, demand, request等时,谓语常用(should)+动词原形。)Step 3. Grammar (1)Subject clauses1. Let Ss finish Activity 3 on page 18 to let them to know about subject clauses. Then give them the following presentation.由连接代 (副) 词引导的主语从句中,连接代词和连接副词在句中既保留自己的疑问含义、又起连接作用,在从句中充当从句的成分。2. Ask Ss to choose the proper words to fill in the blanks.that whether who whichwhat where when howwhy whatever whoever wherever(1) _ he is an advanced worker is well-known.(2) _ students have chances to take part in different kinds of outdoor activities is very important.(3) _ he comes or not doesnt matter.(4)_ side would win became clear.(5)_ she did was right.(6) _ comes will be welcome.(7) _ he will arrive is not mentioned.Suggested Answers:(1) That / Why(2) That (3) Whether(4) Which(5) What / Whatever(6) Whoever (7) When3. Let Ss translate the following sentences into English.(1) 谁将会是导演到现在都没有决定。(2) 生命怎么开始的是一个迷。(3) 他们什么时候开会还没有决定。(4) 不知道下一届的奥运会在哪里开。Suggested Answers:(1) Who is to be the director has not yet been decided.(2) How life began is a puzzle.(3) When they will have the meeting hasnt been decided.(4) Where the next Olympic Games will be held is not known.Step 4. Grammar (2)Purpose: To enable Ss to learn how to use “it” in subject clauses as a formal subject.1. Ask Ss to finish Activity 1 on page 21. Then ask them to use another way to express the following sentences.(1) Whether she will be back tomorrow depends on the weather.(2) What is in the box is unknown.(3) Why they left in such a hurry was not clear.(4) Where he has been is still a puzzle.Suggested Answers:(1) It depends on the weather whether she will be back tomorrow.(2) It is unknown what is in the box.(3) It was not clear why they left in such a hurry.(4) It is still a puzzle where he has been.2. Help Ss draw a conclusion when to use it as a formal subject.(1) It + be +形容词+ that-从句It is necessary that 有必要It is important that 重要的是It is desirable/ suggested/ advisable that + ( should ) doEg It is important that we (should) study hard. It is suggested that we (should) finish it this afternoon. (2) It + be + v-ed + that-clauseIt is believed that 人们相信It is known to all that 从所周知It has been decided that 已决定(3) It + be + noun + that-clauseIt is common knowledge that 是常识It is a surprise that 令人惊奇的是It is a fact that 事实是(4) It + vi + that-clauseIt appears that 似乎It happens that 碰巧It occurred to me that 我突然想起3. Let Ss finish Activity 2 on page 21and Activity 4 on page 22.Step 5. Homework 1. Ask Ss to review the content on page 138-139, and the grammar in English Weekly.2.
