T: Everyone knows a lot about Olympics. Who knows which is the final event in the Olympics? Ss: The final event in the Olympics is the marathon. T: Yes, you are right. In this lesson, we are going to learn something about the marathon. Step Cultural Corner1. Scanning Get the students to comprehend the passage quickly and accurately. Give students several minutes to look through the whole passage and try to remember some information. Tell the students to read silently and then choose the right answers according to the passage. T: Now please go through the passage quickly and choose the best answers according to the text.Show the following on the screen.1. At first the distance of the marathon was _ kilometers. T: There are three paragraphs in this passage. Read the passage again and try to summarize the main idea of each paragraph. Give the students enough time to prepare. Sample answers: Para 1: What the Paralympics are. Para 2: The history of the Paralympics. Para 3: The games of the Paralympics.
