The short history has not produced a big wealth of cultural heritages. For this reason, Australia spare no efforts to protect its culture. The cottage of James Cook is a perfect example of the government and peoples effort. Built in 1755, Cooks Cottage is the oldest building in Australia, with a fascinating past. Its a must when exploring Melbourne. Originally located in Yorkshire, England, the cottage was brought to the Fitzroy Gardens by Sir Russell Grimwade in 1934. In 1901 Australia came into being with its capital in Melbourne. To celebrate the birth of the nation, a statue of Captain Cook was built in Sydney where Cook had sailed in and set his steps onto the land. Stamps were printed in honor of the English explorer. However, Australian people would have to travel all the way to Britain to admire the life of the discoverer, so Sir Russell Grimwade, an Australian businessman, offered to buy the old house of James Cook in Yorkshire and relocate it to Melbourne when Melbourne celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1934. Amazingly, each piece was carefully numbered, packed into boxes and then shipped to Australia, along with cuttings of the original coverings. It took nearly a month to reach Melbourne. In fact, explorer Captain James Cook never lived in the cottage-hed been away from home for almost ten years when his father built it-but this connection to the Cook family was enough to prompt Grimwade to transport the cottage to the other side of the world. (10分)阅读理解Usually people with better education are able to get better jobs,In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education dont.It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But it isnt true. Some people may think that a person spends the best years of his life to get education only to make a living. This was probably one of reasons of education. In fact,if education is just a way of making a living, people dont need to spend so much time in school. If people just want to make a living, they can get a short-time education.Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone.Even language and math need not be taught in detail(详细地),either. It is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.Education is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his other abilities. It can make him a wise man and enjoy the achievements of humans.Education is to make a man lead to a better life.Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and, most of all, take an interest in the world.I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important one.(1)The writer thinks people with little education usually have more chances to get jobs. (2)People neednt learn much in school if they only want to make a living from the passage. (3)It is expected that educated people will be able to have a better life in the world. (4)The most important reason for education is to make a good living. (5)The passage mainly tells us that people can get education in a short time. 四、 任务型阅读。 (共1题;共6分)12.
