Unit 2 Its a long story. 1. take care (告别用语)多保重(告别用语)多保重 【点拨】take care意为“多保重”,是告别用语。此外,还可表示“当心;小心”之意,与be careful, look out同义,后可接that从句或动词不定式。如: Take care that you dont drink too much. =Take care not to drink too much. 小心别喝太多(酒)。2. elderly adj. 上了年纪的;较老的上了年纪的;较老的 【点拨】elderly是形容词,意为“上了年纪的;较老的”。如: The elderly man looks for his ticket in his pocket, his bag and finally finds it in his wallet. 这个老人在他的口袋、包里寻找车票,最终在钱包里找到了票。 【辨析】elder, older与elderly elder, older这两个词均是old的比较级,elder本身也是形容词,三个词在用法上有所区别。 (1)elder意为“前辈的;年纪较长的”,仅用于同一家庭成员的比较;older则不限于此。如: My younger son is five and my elder son is nine. 我的小儿子五岁,大儿子九岁。 Tom is two years older than I. 汤姆比我年长两岁。 (2)elder在句中只用作定语,不作表语;older则两者皆可。如: His elder son got married last week. 他的长子上星期结婚了。 I think his mother is older. 我认为他的母亲年龄大一些。 (3)elder只能用来指人;older既可指人,也可指物,older指物时意为“较旧的”。如: My elder brother joined the army when he was only fifteen. 我哥哥年仅15岁就参了军。 This bike is older than that one. 这辆自行车比那辆旧。 (4)elderly是委婉用语,一般不说old man,而用elderly man代替。the elderly泛指“老人”。如: His mothers elder sister is an elderly woman. 他妈妈的姐姐是一个老妇人。3. ready adj. 准备好的准备好的 【点拨】(1)ready最常用的是作形容词,其含义及用法如下: 1)意为“准备好的”,不用在名词前面作定语,仅作表语。如: I will be ready in five minutes. 我将在五分钟之内准备好。 Are you ready to go to school? 你准备好去学校了吗? 2)意为“甘愿的;乐意的”,不用在名词前面作定语,仅作表语。如: She is always ready to help. 她总是很乐意帮忙。 They werent ready to lend me the money. 他们不愿意借给我那笔钱。 3)意为“迅速的;敏捷的;灵巧的”,用在名词前作定语。如: She has got a ready mind. 她思维敏捷。 He has a ready pen. 他文笔敏捷。 (2)含ready的常用搭配: be ready to do sth. 准备好做某事 be ready for sth. 准备好某事;急于行动 be ready with sth. 愿意做某事 get ready for sth. 准备做某事;为做某事而准备 get sb. ready 使某人准备好 have sth. ready 准备好某物4. take off 脱下脱下 【点拨】take off意为“脱下”,其反义短语是put on,意为“穿上”。如: Please take off your shoes before going into the house. 请你在进屋之前脱掉你的鞋。 Its warm here. You may take off your coat. 这里很暖和,你可以把外套脱了。 【延伸】take off还可以表示“起飞”,其反义词是land(降落)。如: The plane took off half an hour ago. 飞机在半小时前起飞了。 1. Im afraid youre sitting in my seat. 恐怕你坐在了我的位置上。恐怕你坐在了我的位置上。 【点拨】(1)Im afraid (that).意为“恐怕”,用来有礼貌地表达可能令人不快的信息。 (2)afraid常用于以下结构中: be afraid to do sth.=be afraid of doing sth. 害怕做某事;害怕某事会发生 Im afraid so. 恐怕是这样。 Im afraid not. 恐怕不是这样。 2. Li Lin and Li Wei are on the station platform, saying goodbye to each other. 李林和李伟在车站的站台上,相互道别。李林和李伟在车站的站台上,相互道别。 【点拨】此句中的saying goodbye to each other在句中属于现在分词作伴随状语。伴随状语是指状语从句的动作伴随主句发生,它的特点是:它所表达的动作或状态是伴随着句子谓语动词的动作而发生或存在的。如: He sat in the armchair, reading a newspaper. 他坐在扶手椅里读报。 All night long he lay awake, thinking of the problem. 他整夜躺在床上睡不着,思考着那个问题。 【延伸】伴随状语的其他表示方法: (1)用with复合结构。如: The little girls were playing with snow with their hands frozen red. 小女孩们在玩雪,手都冻红了。 (2)用独立主格结构。如: The little boy goes to school, the little dog accompanying him every day. 这小男孩每天去上学,那条小狗都陪伴着他。 (3)用形容词。如: Crusoe went home, full of fear. 克鲁索满怀恐惧地回家。(4)用介词短语。如: The girl came back to her mother in tears. 这女孩眼泪汪汪地回到她母亲身边。
