Status and Function This lesson is the second period in Unit 2. The topic of this unit is about what the students used to do in their childhood. Section B introduces new vocabularies, recycle the language presented in section A. Activities in section B also help students integrate the new target language with the language studied in earlier units. This recycling reinforces previous language learning while providing practice with newly learned language. So section B helps students integrate the new material with what they have studied in pervious lessons. This combining of knowledge helps them make better use of the old and the new items. The students have learnt English for several years. In this unit students learn to talk about what they used to be like. Such topic reminds students of the days of their childhood. It is helpful to raise learning interest of students. And students are sure to be active in all the activities in this unit. but some of them didnt learn it well. Especially, most of them are afraid to speak English. For this lesson, the students have to know the pattern “used to do” and how to use it. And this is what I teach in this lesson.Part 2 The analysis of the studentsTeaching AimsPart 31. Group assessment3. Self- assessment As we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in the middle school is to cultivate students abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson Ill mainly use Task-based teaching method. That is to say, I will let the Ss learn in real situations, finish a task by making a survey to help the Ss to get a better understanding of the target language. And in this lesson communication method and audio-lingual method will be needed. Learning methods1. Listening method2. Pair work3. The purpose is to attract the students.Step 2 Leading in At first, I open the CAI and ask the students to guess what is happening in each picture. Then: Ill get the students to ask and answer. For example: T: The girl used to exercise in gym class when she was a child. I used to listen to the radio. What about the other girl or boy? And what about you?. I think the activities in this step will help the students review the vocabularies and this step provides practice using the target language. Such topic reminds students of the days of their childhood. Play with the mudPick up the friutStep 3 Presentation Activity1: Free talk Give Ss three minutes to tell something about their childhood. For example, when I was a child, I used to draw on the ground. After that, I will show them some pictures. The CAI can arouse the students interest in learning English. And get the students to practice the target language. Activity 2: Listening practice. After talking, I will get the students to finish 2a and 2b.
