I used to listen to the stories my father would tell me about his stay in Canada and tours to Europe in the 1970s, with great interest. My big moment finally came in the summer of 1998 when I was able to accompany my parents to Europe, where my father was to attend a meeting. We planned to travel to Belgium, Netherlands and West Germany.I have vivid memories even today of going to Mumbai airport at night all excited about finally going abroad. I had heard several great things about Lufthansa till then but now I finally got to experience them first hand, during the flight to Frankfurt. We flew business class and even today I can remember the excellent service by the Lufthansa crew. The flight was really smooth and thoroughly enjoyable, even for someone like me, who is otherwise scared of flying. After spending almost two weeks in Europe, we took the Lufthansa airport express from Dusseldorf to Frankfurt airport, for our return flight. What a journey that was! All along the Rhine (莱茵河), it was simply an unforgettable experience. I was in a sombremood on the flight back to Mumbai as it marked the end of a wonderful vacation, but the Lufthansa crew members were able to change it into a most enjoyable experience yet again, with the quality of their service.Being the first airline to take me overseas, Lufthansa will always hold a special place in my heart. Even today, I continue to enjoy flights on Lufthansa and simply cannot dream of choosing any other airline. Flying, in general, for me, has always been an ordeal (terrible and painful experience). Flying on Lufthansa, however, is something I always have and always will look forward to.【文章大意】本文是一篇记叙文。 1Which country does the author live in now?AIndia. BCanada.CBelgium. DGermany. 根据第一段首句以及最后一段“Being the first airline to take me overseas.” 故选A。答案:A2Which of the following is TRUE about the authors trip to Europe in 1998?AThe author traveled with one of his parents.BBoth their going and return are by air.CThey traveled in spring that year.DThey stayed in Europe for nearly two months. B3It can be inferred from the passage that Lufthansa is _.Aa city in India Ba city in EuropeCan airline company Da travel agency解析:推理判断题。 C4The underlined word “sombre” in the 4th paragraph probably means “_”Ahappy BsadCangry Denjoyable解析:词义猜测题。 答案:BBIn ancient Egypt, the pharaoh (法老) treated the poor message runner like a prince when he arrived at the palace, if he brought good news. However, if the exhausted runner had the misfortune to bring the pharaoh unhappy news, his head was cut off.Shades of that spirit spread over todays conversations. Once a friend and I packed up some peanut butter and sandwiches for an outing. As we walked lightheartedly out the door, picnic basket in hand, a smiling neighbor looked up at the sky and said, “Oh boy, bad day for a picnic. The weatherman says its going to rain.” I wanted to strike him on the face with the peanut butter and sandwiches. Not for his stupid weather report, for his smile.Several months ago I was racing to catch a bus. As I breathlessly put my handful of cash across the Greyhound counter, the sales agent said with a broad smile, “Oh, that bus left five minutes ago.” Dreams_of_headcutting!Its not the news that makes someone angry. Its the unsympathetic attitude with which its delivered. Everyone must give bad news from time to time, and winning professionals do it with the proper attitude. A doctor advising a patient that she needs an operation does it in a caring way. A boss informing an employee he didnt get the job takes on a sympathetic tone. Big winners know, when delivering any bad news, they should share the feeling of the receiver.Unfortunately, many people are not aware of this. When youre tired from a long flight, has a hotel clerk cheerfully said that your room isnt ready yet? When you had your heart set on the toast beef, has your waiter merrily told you that he just served the last piece? It makes you as traveler or diner want to land your fist right on their unsympathetic faces.Had my neighbor told me of the upcoming rainstorm with sympathy, I would have appreciated his warning. Had the Greyhound salesclerk sympathetically informed me that my bus had already left, I probably would have said, “Oh,thats all right. Ill catch the next one.” Big winners, when they bear bad news, deliver bombs with the emotion the bombarded (被轰炸的) person is sure to have.【文章大意】作者用法老对信使的态度引出下面的话题,给我们讲的是在给别人传递坏的消息的时候,要注意方式准确和得体的重要性。5In Paragraph 1, the writer tells the story of the pharaoh to _.Amake a comparison Bintroduce a topicCdescribe a scene Doffer an argument解析:推理判断题。 B6In the writers opinion, his neighbor was _.Afriendly BwarmheartedCnot helpful Dnot considerate解析:推理判断题。根据文章第二段中“I wanted to strike him.for his smile.” D7From “Dreams of headcutting!” (Paragraph 3), we learn that the writer _.Awas mad at the sales agentBwas reminded of the cruel pharaohCwished that the sales agent would have bad dreamsDdreamed of cutting the sales agents head that night解析:推理判断题。 A8What is the main idea of the text?AHelping others sincerely is the key to business success.BDelivering bad news properly is important in communication.CReceiving bad news requires great courage.DLearning ancient traditions can be useful. Birth order plays a vital role in deciding the characteristics of a child.
