The thirteen stripes (alternating red and white) represent the original colonies; known as Old Glory; the 50 stars represent the 50 states; White in a blue field represents a new constellation.,The Star Spangled Banner,What historical facts and values are revealed by the song?,The Star Spangled Banner,Oh, say can you see, by the dawns early light,What so proudly we hailed at the twilights last gleaming?Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,Oer the ramparts (城墙)we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.O say, does that star-spangled banner yet waveOer the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,Where the foes haughty host in dread silence reposes,What is that which the breeze, oer the towering steep,As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the mornings first beam,In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it waveOer the land of the free and the home of the brave.,And where is that band who so vauntingly sworeThat the havoc of war and the battles confusionA home and a country should leave us no more?Their blood has wiped out their foul footsteps pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slaveFrom the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth waveOer the land of the free and the home of the brave.Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall standBetween their loved homes and the wars desolation!Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued landPraise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just,And this be our motto: In God is our trust. And the star-spangled banner forever shall waveOer the land of the free and the home of the brave!,The Star Spangled Banner is basically a poem inspired by the Battle of Baltimore fought on September 12-14, 1814 between Britain and the US. It was officially accepted as the National Anthem in 1913. Lyrics: Francis Scott Key Music: John Philip Souse,National FlowerRose,Rose is said to be about 35 million years old, and it has been used as a symbol of love, beauty, war, and politics throughout the world. The flowers are generally red, pink, white, or yellow and grow naturally throughout North America.,In 1986, President Regan issued a proclamation to declare that the rose became the official flower of the America.,National BirdThe Eagle,The bald eagle was chosen June 20,1782 as the symbol of America, because of its long life, great strength and majestic looks. The eagle, full of the spirit of freedom, living above the valleys, strong and powerful in his might, has become the national symbol of U.S.A.,Where can you find the image of the Eagle?,On the backs of the gold coins, the silver dollar, the half dollar and the quarter, we see an eagle with outspread wings.,National TreeOak,People select the oak as their choice for Americas National Tree in a nationwide vote hosted by The National Arbor Day Foundation (美国植树节基金会)on its Website.,The Great Seal,What does it stand for?,The Great Seal,On the breast of the American bald eagle is a shield with thirteen vertical white and red stripes beneath a blue chief. In the eagles right talon is an olive branch, and in his left a bundle of thirteen arrows. In his beak is a scroll . Over the head of the eagle, a golden glory is breaking through a cloud, and surrounds a constellation of thirteen stars on an azure field.,Uncle Sam,Historians arent completely certain how the character Uncle Sam was created, or who (if anyone) he was named after. The prevailing theory is that Uncle Sam was named after Samuel Wilson. Wilson was born in Arlington, Mass., on September 13, 1766. His childhood home was in Mason, New Hampshire. In 1789, he and his brother Ebenezer walked to Troy, New York.,During the War of 1812, Wilson was in the business of slaughtering and packing meat. He provided large shipments of meat to the US Army, in barrels that were stamped with the initials U.S. Supposedly, someone who saw the U.S. stamp suggested perhaps as a jokethat the initials stood for Uncle Sam Wilson. The suggestion that the meat shipments came from Uncle Sam led to the idea that Uncle Sam symbolized the federal government.,Uncle Sams traditional appearance, with a white goatee and star-spangled suit, is an invention of artists and political cartoonists; Samuel Wilson did not look like the modern image of Uncle Sam. For example, Wilson was clean-shaven, while Uncle Sam is usually portrayed with a goatee. The single most famous portrait of Uncle Sam is the I WANT YOU Army recruiting poster from World War I.,Thank You !,The statue of liberty is a huge sculpture located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. This monument was a gift to the USA from the people of France in recognition of the French-American alliance during the American Revolution. The formal name of the statue is Liberty Enlightening the World.,It pictures a woman who has escaping the chains of tyranny (the broken chains lie at her feet). Libertys right hand holds a torch that is a symbol of liberty. Liberty was designed by the French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. The statue was re-assembled in the USA and was completed on October 28, 1886. The seven rays of Libertys crown symbolize the seven seas and seven continents of the world. Liberty holds a tablet in her left hand that reads July 4, 1776 (in Roman numerals), Independence Day of the United States of America.,
