2013年高考第二轮复习英语全国版专题升级训练十三社会文化、生活故事类阅读理解、七选五(二)第一节阅读理解ALast month my family,my husband and I visited the zoo in Tulsa,Oklahoma.I was afraid I just couldnt hide my excitement as it had been five years since I had been to the zoo.I was especially excited about getting to see the penguin exhibit that had been completed since my last visit.I thought it would be just as magical as it was the last time. The Tulsa Zoo is located on Mohawk Park, and covers 84 acres, making it the third largest zoo in the US.The zoo has several highlights, but I have to admit that I found myself rather disappointed. The maintenance is deeply lacking, and most of the exhibits, landscaping, etc.looked like it had not been updated or well kept.Unfortunately, their polar bear died a short time ago.The strangest attraction was the missinginaction jaguar(美洲虎)We spent several minutes searching for the animal without any luck.In most cases the zoo was good about putting up a sign if the animal was no longer there or was moved to a different location, but it was a different case with the jaguar and likewise the kangaroo.Almost all of the handson equipment in the elephant encounter was broken and no longer working.Although the zoo did put up signs as an apology,it continued to add to the feeling that the zoo is approaching death. The one exhibit that did not fail to impress were the African Penguins.Their habitat was well built. The lion, bear, and tiger were also easy to watch.A favorite among the kids was clearly the monkeys who were very active and eager to put on a show. The Tropical Rainforest did a very good job creating a special atmosphere. The cafe served very good food and had lovely indoor and outdoor areas for eating. They are currently redesigning the Sea Lion exhibit,so the Sea Lions were not available for viewing while we were there. All things considered, the Tulsa Zoo is still the best zoo in our area, but I would only award it three out of five stars.1Seeing several highlights in the Tulsa Zoo,the author _.Afelt very excitedBwas a little frightenedCwas not satisfied with themDthought it was worth seeing2Why did the author think it was a different case with the jaguar?ABecause the jaguar was friendly to the kangaroo and visitors.BBecause the zoo didnt use a sign to show if the jaguar was there.CBecause the jaguar is very dangerous compared with other animals.DBecause the jaguar had disappeared when the author got there.3What can be concluded from this passage?AThe Tulsa Zoo will be expanded to become the largest zoo in the US.BThe author intended to visit the Sea Lion exhibit before going there.CThe author felt that the Tulsa Zoo will close soon.DThe Tulsa Zoo was very popular when the author was young.4What does the author think of the Tulsa Zoo in general?AShe thinks nothing of it.BIt is the best zoo in the US.CShe thinks very poorly of it.DIt is a first class zoo in her area.BAs the Queen prepares to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, one of her closest relatives and oldest friends has been allowed to give a deep description of the family life of the Royals. There have been hundreds of other books declaring to offer a quick look behind Palace doors, but this is the first written by someone who is closely related to the Royal Family and has shared their livesnot only throughout the Queens reign(统治时期)but also through that of her father,King George .The Final Curtsey was written by Her Majestys cousin and childhood playmate the Honorable Margaret Rhodes. It tells in detail the story of Mrs Rhodes relationship with the Royal Family over eight decades. The book, with delightfully informal and neverbeforeseen pictures, has been written with the full knowledge of the Queen, who has read and approved parts of it.Mrs Rhodes lives on the Royal farm in Windsor Great Park in a house given to her by the Queen in 1980.She tells how it was offered out of the blue one day when she and the Queenwhose 60 years on the throne next year will be marked with many national celebrationswere out riding. She suddenly turned around and said,“Could you bear to live in the suburb?”Therefore Mrs Rhodes is now still living here.Born in 1925,the youngest daughter of the 16th Lord Elphinstone and his wife Mary, the Honorable Margaret Rhodes has led an extraordinary life. She was the childhood playmate of her cousin, the Queen. She was a wartime MI6 spy.And she was a ladyinwaiting to her aunt, the Queen Mother, from 1991 to 2002.At the Queens 80th birthday in April 2006,Margaret gave an interview to the BBC in which she proved that,in her own opinion and despite several false reports, the Queen would not abdicate(退位)Now,at the age of 86,she has written a charming autobiography(自传)that paints a firsttime close portrait of the private world of the Royal Family.5How is The Final Curtsey unusual?AIt predicts whether the Queen will leave the palace.BThe author is the Queens cousin who knows her well.CThe author presents readers with a cousin.7According to Paragraph 3,Mrs Rhodes _.Ahad to obey the Queens order to live on the farmBwas clear that the Queen is a selfish womanCdidnt expect that she would have a chance to live on the farmDdidnt want to disappoint the Queen in front of others8Mrs Rhodes wrote The Final Curtsey in order to _.Aearn enough money to buy the Royal farmBprove her good relationship with the QueenChelp people remember the Queen foreverDtell us some unexposed things about the Royal FamilyCMy father was poor in expressing his feelings.I knew that my dad loved me,but showed me love in other ways. There was one particular time in my life when this became real to me.I always believed that my parents had a good marriage, but gradually the strain(紧张)on my mom and dads relationship was quite evident. However,I was not prepared for the day when Dad had decided to leave. All that I could think of was that I was going to become a product of a divorced family.I kept telling myself that it wasnt going to happen. The night before he left,I stayed up in my room for a long time.I prayed and I cried and I wrote a long letter to my dad.I told him how much I loved him and that I would always and forever be his Krissie. As I folded my note,I stuck in a picture of me with a saying I had always heard:“Anyone_can_be_a_father,but_it_takes_someone_special_to_be_a_daddy.”Early the next morning,as my dad left our house,I slipped my letter into one of his bags. Two weeks later,my mother told me that they decided that there were things that both of them could and would change and that their marriage was worth saving.“Well,Dad said that when he read your letter,it made him cry.It meant a lot to him and I have hardly ever seen your dad cry. After he read your letter,he called to ask if he could come over to talk.Whatever you said really made a difference to your dad.”A few days later my dad was back.We never talked about the letter.I guessed that it became a secret between us.9Why did the authors father decide to leave?ABecause he was poor in showing his feelings.BBecause his wife was always giving orders.CBecause serious problems occurred in their marriage.DBecause the strain on fatherdaughter relationship was evident.10How did the author feel when her father decided to leave?AExcited. BAnnoyed.CDoubtful. DUpset.11The underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 means _.Aa man may have to give up a lot to be a real fatherBa man may have to give in to his wife to be a daddyCa man who raises special children can become a real fatherDa man who develops some special talents can be a real fatherDI have a good memory of my grandfather,Jack. He was sitting in his armchair in the front room.I sat next to him.We were reading aloud, our heads bent over the page in front of us,a finger marking the words;separated by seven decades, brought together by words. Its a common scene in British families;however,in our case, the usual order of things is reversed(颠倒)Grandad had been blind since I was tiny,so I was reading to him. When reading aloud, people usually read something thats of interest to the listener. So I didnt read childrens books;I read the sorts of things Grandad liked to hear about.Much of the vocabulary in Grandads reading material was far beyond me.When I met unfamiliar words,Id spell them out.Grandad would help me.It must have been painful for him to hear news;but he never hurried me along or complained. Our reading wasnt really about getting knowledge. It was a way for us to spend time together. My grandfather wasnt always blind. He had been a good carpenter(木匠)The first Christmas of my parents marriage,he built my mother a bookcase, which now belongs to my son Jonah, providing a link between four generations.I was a fortunate child;I spent a lot of time with my grandfather, and he opened the world to me in a particular way.Reading was our way of building a relationship that has had a lasting effect on me.In the school holidays,I sometimes accompanied him on trips to the seaside with the local association for the blind. This might seem strange, but I felt that my personal value was realized because I could finally do something for Grandad.A decade later,I found a position in a nursing home, which reminded me of my early experiences;reading to senior citizens was a connection back to Grandad.More than simple conversation, reading aloud is a connection between two individuals and it can have a big emotional(情感的)effect on elderly people.12What can we know from the first paragraph?AThe authors grandfather was born blind.BThe author is seventy years younger than her grandfather.CThe author often sat opposite to her grandfather while reading.DIts quite common in Britain that children read to their grandfathers.13Why didnt the author choose to read childrens books?ATo expand her knowledge.BTo make her vocabulary bigger.CTo show off in front of her grandfather.DTo satisfy the needs of her grandfather.14How did the author feel during the trips with Grandad?AProud.
