Get the Ss to be used to doing the cloze and reading training during a limited period so as to maximum their study efficiency.Teaching key points: the usage of can and could; the usage of may and might; the usage of must and need.Teaching difficult points: the negative reply to sentence including either must or may.Teaching procedures: 1) Greeting and Listening (Listening is designed as the first step because the Ss can pay more attention when they are clear-minded during the whole listening period. Whoever es up with a question will be encouraged and rewarded with a piece of paper shield.Explain the difficult grammar points for the Ss, which is also designed in case that there is nobody raising questions.A. Explain the meaning of modal verbs. 1.can 表能力 e.g. Can you swim? I can/cant lift that box. 表允许 e.g. You can go now. 表可能性(跟may意思相近) e.g. Can you go with us? 表推测(主要用于否定句和疑问句)e.g. The man cant be Tom. Tom has gone to England. 2. could I 是can的过去式,表示过去有能力及过去存在的可能。e.g. He couldnt go that day .那天他不能去。(可能性) He couldnt answer all the questions when he was a pupil.不是所有的问题他都能回答。(能力) II 表示委婉地提法(现在时) e.g. Could I speak to Mr. Zhang,please?(电话里)请找张先生接电话好吗? (3)表示吃惊。e.g. He couldnt be a thief.他不可能是个小偷。 How could he be so silly?他怎么会这么傻? 3. May I 表示允许 e.g. You may e here whenever you like.你想什么时候来就什么时候来。 表示客气或委婉的请求用May,回答是也用May就显得冷淡。所以最好改用热情的答语。 e.g. May I smoke here?我可以在这里吸烟吗? Yes,please./Certainly.可以./当然可以。 II 表示不确定的推测 e.g. She may be right.她可能是对的。 4. might I 用在疑问句中,表示委婉、客气 Might you make some room for me?您可以给我让点地方吗?II 作为may的过去式,表不确定的推测 e.g. They thought they might be there on time. 他们认为他们可以准时到达那里5. must I 表示必须 e.g. you must e earlier next time.下次早点来。 在回答由must引导的一般疑问句时,若表示肯定,用must。若表示否定,用neednt或dont have to。因为mustnt表示禁止、不许可。 e.g. Must we all e tomorrow?明天我们必须全部来吗? Yes,you must./No,you neednt./No,you dont have to.是的,必须全部来。/不,没必要。 II 表示很有把握的推测。e.g. Miss Gao must be in the office.高老师一定在办公室里。 This must be Wang Hais book.这一定是王海的书。 B Let the Ss to do some relevant exercises. Attached pls. find detailed information. C key phrases be anxious about sb./sth.=be worried about 对忧虑 be anxious to do sth. 渴望做某事 be anxious that 担心 e.g. I am anxious about my grandmas health. I am anxious for your brother to help me out. I am anxious that there are some mistakes in my position。 . have/make an appointment with sb.与某人有预约 be crucial to/for sb/sth. 对某人/某事来说至关重要 be crucial to do sth.做某事至关重要 be crucial that+从句 e.g. Reading a lot is crucial to English study. Its crucial to find the solution to every problem. Its crucial that you realize the importance of study. because of due to 相当于caused by,可作表语和状语,不能用于句首 因为 thanks to 多亏,辛亏(相当于感谢) owing to 可与due to换用,可用于句首on account of 语气比较正式 e.g. I didnt go to the movies because of the cold weather.His illness is due to bad food.他生病是由于吃了不好的食物。(多作表语) He cant e because of the bad weather. 他不能来是因为天气不好。(多作语) That was on account of lack of exercise. 那是由于缺乏锻炼。 Owing to the rain, the match was called off. 由于下雨,比赛取消了。5) ConsolidationGet the Ss to do the exercises of exam paper relating to Unit 5. They will be asked to finish the multiple choice, rewriting, and blank filling first. Next I will check the answers together with them. Finally I will give my explanation for the questions but not for all of them. Only in places where the Ss make mistakes will I offer clarification.Since the cloze and reading parts have already been finished by the Ss at home, I will check the answers directly. As for the cloze, Ill let the Ss try to illustrate by themselves now that the method of parison has been taught for many times. If any mistakes, I will provide my illustration. The exam paper is attached.6) Cloze and reading Training (for a limited time only)The Ss are allowed to plete the cloze within 5 min, reading 4 min and a half. The Ss are to be guided to employ the context fully to finish the cloze.Get the Ss to be used to skimming the first paragraph and the first plus the last sentences of each paragraph so as to quicken the reading.7) SumLet the Ss take a look at the blackboard to recall what theyve learned today. I will provide my summary as a supplement after their recollection.8) AssignmentAsk the Ss to have a detailed review of their notebook, exam paper as well as other training materials. Ask the Ss to finish the cloze and reading parts of the mid-final exam paper at home within limited time.
