as well,he most enjoyed writing plays, with the purpose of explaining a social message, and making it more memorable with the use of comedy while doing so.Some of his plays direct peoples attention to the problem of education, religion and government, however, one topic he often considered was the exploitation(剥削) of the working class. As a socialist,he played a role in the Fabian Society, which was a British socialist movement, writing brochures and leaflets for them.He even married a fellow member of the Society, called Charlotte Payne-Townshend.He was a wonderful speaker, and gave speeches on equal rights in politics for men and women, how to live healthy lifestyles, and condemning the attitudes of the rich towards the poor. This socialist attitude of Bernard Shaw influenced many of his writings, including Pygmalion, which has become a classic. The play was first shown in 1913 in Vienna, with Shaw himself as the director.Shaw chose Mrs Patricia Campbell to play the role of Eliza, although many thought that she was too old for the role at the age of 49.Shaw claimed that he had written the role with her in mind, and only she would play Eliza.Higgins was played by Sir Herbert Tree.It has now become more popular, due to the 1964 musical My Fair Lady, which is based on Pygmalion.1.George Bernard Shaw wrote plays to .A.entertain the audienceB.make his works memorableC.make the Fabian Society knownD.express his view on social problems答案:D解析:细节理解题。由第一段“.he most enjoyed writing plays, with the purpose of explaining a social message.”可知,萧伯纳创作戏剧的目的是解释社会信息,即表达对社会问题的看法或观点。2.We can infer suitable for the role.B.She was at the right age for the role.C.He had designed the role especially for her.D.She helped Bernard Shaw with his writing.答案:C解析:细节理解题。由最后一段“Shaw claimed that he had written the role with her in mind.”可知,萧伯纳之所以选择Mrs Patricia Campbell饰演戏剧的女主角是因为当时他创作戏剧时已经想到让她出演主角了。五、七选五阅读理解(2016全国高考)Secret codes(密码) keep messages private.Banks, companies, and government agencies use secret codes in doing business, especially when information is sent by computer.People have used secret codes for thousands of years.1 Code breaking never lags (落后) far behind code making. The science of creating and reading coded messages is called cryptography. There are three main types of cryptography.2 For example, the first letters of “My elephant eats too many eels” spell out the hidden message “Meet me.”3 You might represent each letter with a number, for example.Lets number the letters of the alphabet,in order, from 1 to 26.If we substitute a number for each letter, the message “Meet me” would read “13 5 5 20 13 5.”A code uses symbols to replace words, phrases,or sentences. To read the message of a real code, you must have a code book.4 For example,“bridge” might stand for “meet” and “out” might stand for “me.” The message “Bridge out” would actually mean “Meet me.” 5 However,it is also hard to keep a code book secret for long.So codes must be changed frequently.A.It is very hard to break a code without the code book.B.In any language, some letters are used more than others.C.Only people who know the keyword can read the message.D.As long as there have been codes, people have tried to break them.E.You can hide a message by having the first letters of each word spell it out.F.With a code book, you might write down words that would stand for other words.G.Another way to hide a message is to use symbols to stand for specific letters of the alphabet.答案:15 DEGFA六、短文改错My uncle attended a conference last Friday. After the conference,he went to a restaurant for a lunch. But when
